Not sure that I have ever seen a brooch like this! It certainly is interesting in its own right!! Your shot makes it even more intriguing. Its well exposed, sharp and makes good use of a wide aperture. Well done!!

This is absolutely a stunning photo and I LOVE how you composed and presented it.The texture on the brooch coupled with the sheen of the gold is beautiful. The softness of the background is perfect and this is an excellent entry for this contest. These are the reasons that I gave you this six star rating and I wish you nothing but the very Best of Luck in the contest~

Spellbindingly gorgeous from the crop to the composition to the masterful way you always do your layer work.

Tell me how you got that background....is it Gaussean Blur, because when I do Gaussean it impacts on my margins....ahhh well, some day I might get the hang of it.

Always top notch work coming from you.

Annie, tell me how you got that background, is it Gaussean Blur, because when I do Gaussean it impacts on my margins....do share that...after all this is a place to learn from great teachers like you.

I am not sure what you mean "impacting on your margins", but it is Gaussean Blur I use. I use that an almost all my backgrounds. Sometimes alone and sometimes as a base. I always have problems answering questions like this, because my Photoshop is Norwegian. I do however have Photoshop CS6 in English, but the filters are not in the same order, so I can't do a straight translation. I did not even know before I checked it up for this reply that it is Gaussean Blur I have used so much. LOL

"impacting on my margins"....when I use it at a great blur like that, I have a prominent line around the margin....I can always tell it is Gaussean and it looks fake to me....so I don't use it. Now I will just try harder and maybe use a finer brush. To me it looks like you blurred one piece of the same thing and then added your mom's brooch to the bottom one but used transfix button....ahhh, some day I might understand this....sigh. Thank you.

OK, now I see what you mean, and you are right about how I did the background. I almost always do fix ups with brushes as well.

When I grow up....I want to be able to do work like you do Annie...I have always been a fan of your layered work, it is art.

Thank you Olga, but I honestly believe you are better photographer than I am.

A lovely photo indeed. I love the subtle tones of the white with the beautiful textures in the brooch. The gold accents the piece without overpowering it. Thank you for sharing

I didn't know what this was at first glance. It almost looks like a fish sculpture. The lighting and colors are beautiful. Love the gold accents that pop with the blurred background. Really nice.
