This is indeed a beautiful photo of a Flamingo and also a very good entry for this contest. I especially like the low key and how lovely the light is falling on the bird. Even if this bird is very colorful, it does indeed look great in BW as well.

Your photo is also pin sharp and especially the feathers of the wing are standing out really well defined. The exposure is perfect and it is very fine contrasts and distinctions between light and dark.

I also think the tight cropping is working well, and the bird has got a perfect placement within the frame. This is indeed a lovely and well taken photo and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

I adore this... I think it is magnificent. The b & W conversion is astronomical. The black back ground makes it POP. The tones are wonderful. The pose is perfect. The detail, and texture of your beloved pinks are top notch. Focus and camera techs spot on. Good luck.

Thanks for sharing.

a wall hanger.

I like this the low key black and white works well with the beautiful flamingo preening and ruffling the feathers. Great composition and sharp focus. Well done Eileen and good luck in contest. :) Mary

Stunning, elegant and oh so you Shadow! I LOVE the Low key style of lighting, shadows and superb focus and details on the eye and feathers.
This is why it is important to get white balance/exposure and focus all done in camera so you can go into the digital darkroom and create magical pieces like this.
Excellent work on camera techs and artistry.
BRAV!

wow, seems I can do no wrong (for now) :) But I'm trying to step up my game a little bit. Glad to see my Mentor and teacher is liking what I am achieving ;) Thanks so much Sange.

Only you would think of doing a flamingo in black and white! Very clever indeed. I guess what I like the most is the perfect composition and light. A true work of art. Going in my favorites. (A note: that's the last six you are getting from me this week, I can't give them all to you!:)) Cheers, James.

wow, thanks so much James! This one will be entered into a photography contest next year for the gardens where I took this. I just took second place for one of my regular flamingos on Friday night. What a thrill!

Very stunning black and white. Gorgeous detail in the feathers and perfect lighting on the feathers and the head. The eye is well lit and the black background make this a true beauty.

I'm trying to figure out how to do photos like this. I have seen videos and read but I can't quite pull it off.

Adjust contrast. Convert to BW. Adjust contrast more to your liking. Use burn tool to darken background completely.

I use lightroom. I'm assuming burn tool is in photoshop?
