Great photograph of something simple and historical. The windmill and its surroundings is captured in a way that shows the gentle and harmonious side of the farming industry, along with the overcast sky all coming together and showing a sense of peace. Great angle of the shot, with the river coming in from the bottom left and going diagonally.

Is that really eighth or 18th century?!?
Is this a tilt or optical illusion of my blind eye?
Good perspective & long depth of field... Overcast illumination.
Pin sharp focusing. Thanks for sharing...

Holland, below sea level. With the windmills working overtime to keep the land dry. This is a perfect shot, as it shows the level of water . The windmill is beautiful.

A beautiful scene. I love Dutch windmills. So colorful and such a part of the culture. I wish you had cropped more from the left and bottom in order to emphasize that magnificent windmill. As is, it is almost lost as an afterthought in the scene. Thank you for posting Fred ~ Steve

Interesting subject matter, however I would like to see more of the windmill and less of the foreground. Possibly shot from another angle. Nice color and depth of field.

You have got a fine example of their water and wind engineering here! The image is well composed with the canal taking the viewer through the scene. The shot is sharp and has reasonable exposure. Well done!

A different perspective for sure from the back side view we never get to see loll

Great distance , I love the angle letting the reviver canal looking ilk e a street - you really transmit the calm places where the windmills are standing - the weather gives you a special ambiance and a bit a feeling of loneliness

great focus, contrast and lighting are well adapted to the weather condition, super frame, a nice capture, thanks for sharing

A very nice shot that shows the water prominently. I like the composition and the low land that is below sea level that can only support a very few trees. A very fine gloomy looking day.

Fred,
A beautiful picture of this Dutch Windmill on the side of the deep canal water up to the top of it's bank, under an overcast spring sky with MORE rain promised. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus. Reminds me of Windmills in East Anglia, brought there by the Dutch! to reclaim land from the water.
