Mark,
A beautiful picture to brighten this cold wet Friday evening & to bring a smile to my face. I love the way the little Cardinal Bird is perched on the cyclist's helmet head forward & wings out on a jet plane formation to reduce the drag as the cyclist pedals away as fast as his legs with let him. Beautiful composition, created with very skilful draftsmanship, beautiful choice blending & application of your colours.

As in photography, it's nice to have more space in front of a moving subject than at the rear
for a good perspective of direction.
Guess you have a reason for rendering it this way, why?
An impressive artwork rendition. Colorful creation with excellent strokes & textures. Good compositional style. Great overall impact! Thanks for sharing...

sure it easy to explain..unlike photography in the art world the biker and bird is the POV(point of view) the background is just that..background..if I added anything more in the front it would be considered dead space and take always from the pov..does that help?.. wink. thanks for the great review
-
How about that wider space at the back? In photography, its a big no from the techno snobs!
-
nope..consider this as a zoom shot..see your capturing an image that is front of you and trying to give the viewer what you see in thru your eyes with your camera..as a cartoonist I have to enhance the characters that I am creating and help the viewer to understand in a story telling ability in the creation..the lil details I throw in is to help hold the viewers eye to excite the in discovery of detail..with the dead space in the from sorta takes away from the story. now if I am trying to bring more things in the story or making it appear smaller to its surrounding then I would bring the forward in the picture..wink
