I have been chasing a red Cardinal downstairs by my Zia's back porch for two years now. She calls me when he is by her feeder..but Everytime I arrive with my camera, he flies away.
I will not lie in reviews I take time view. You have a nice Capture if Me C all puffed out Grace, but your focus is off here. What I miss about Far is the honesty and teaching in reviews from 4 yrs ago and beyond.
Today most review for coin and advancement telling you great job..sharp focus.
It helps no one.

I am not sure if it is due to settings or your not holding both camera and lens rock steady.
I still would shoot at 1/2500sec or higher.
As I have told you before..I shoot up to 1/4000sec.
I like to stop the action to get the sharp focus.
I love the puffed pose, but I am missing the sharp focus as you had on the Heron.
;)

    Thank you :)
It was a hurried shot and no tripod. Grey day, windy, not enough light. Less than perfect, I know, but for some reason I am still compelled to even post some of the less than perfect ones! This guy gave me such a hard time. I haven't given up in getting him right.

The whole point of this sight way back when was to post to learn how to improve on editing tips or camera techs.
When conditions are cold, windy, flat light..
This is when You raise shutter speed, set white balance and exposure compensation.
When bright.. EV should be minus 1.0
Shutter should be at least 1/2500sec or higher.
But when you shoot in auto..or use Aperture..the camera decides for you.
Manual is the only way to be in control.
Factory settings on cameras are like clothing sizes one size fits all.
I applaud you putting this shot up...I still yet to capture a cardinal.

    I understand completely :)
I just couldn't get enough light quickly enough. And of course they hide so well in that tangle of branches! The female was just below him tucked behind branches. Not the best place to try to get a shot to begin with. I need a set up like Michigan Mike has to lure the birds into a staging area!
I think it's nice, and very helpful that you take the time to go into detail with your reviews.

I will work on printing the photo you want this week... I hope to have some time in the middle of the week.

He certainly was puffed up. A beautiful shot naturally enhanced by the many barren branches surrounding him. Beautiful shot. Great clarity, composition, and focus. Thank you so much for sharing.

Excellent choice of subject with a striking color!
A cute & candid capture!!
Diffused focusing.
Please enhance clarity & sharpness.
Compact framing.
Busy back drop.
A dark one would have been better...to get rid of these criss crossing twigs.
Thanks for sharing...

Thank you! The branches are distracting but I couldn't get this guy out in the open. Still working on that!

Eight days eh? That suggests quite a degree o of determination! I wish I could award a big 6 but alas I cannot even give a 5. This is because I feel this shot is not sharp enough. Better luck next time!

I appreciate the review and your honesty very much. I wish it was sharper but this little bugger gave me such a hard time! I had to go with what I could. I got two shots and both are about the same quality. I couldn't make adjustments before he and his mate flew off. I haven't given up yet! Thanks again.
