What an amazing bird and the story is a very nice touch. I had no clue that they where hunted like that. The capture of this fine animal is wonderful, love the shadow and his colors stand out with the sand back ground. Framing is great, nicely done. Thanks for sharing the story also!

Nice shot presented here of a fine looking bird! Your composition is excellent in terms of getting the whole of the bird and its shadow in the photo. Like the delicacy and carefulness of stride that your shot captures. Well done and good luck!

Your management of the light is fabulous. The detail you captured of his gorgeous feathers and total detail of his body is cool. Catching subjects in mid stride creates great action, movement and DOF. The shadow adds to the interest and a bit of humor regarding the statement of walk lightly and carry a big shadow. :)

Wonderful capture of this very different little egret. Love the shadow as he strides forward. Excellent handling of color, lighting and exposure. Focus is also very sharp. :) mary

I've seen many of your photos on Fanart and this one flies to the top! To see such a defined bird shadow is both unusual and delightful to me, and the colors are "made in heaven"---lovely shades of brown, gray, and black. You couldn't have chosen a better background to highlight this fine bird.

Sad and interesting story. Beautiful picture. Perfect framing of the bird with it's shadow. The color of the ground as a background complements the bird's colors. Great job.

Fred - I love this shot! So many things to like about it. I like the title. My first impression was "On a Mission", as you have caught this guy/gal in a moment of determination to get somewhere specifically. Secondly is that shadow and the way you have framed both subject and shadow is perfect. I like simplicity (as is probably evident in my images) and here you have managed a shot that delivers interest and simplicity with no other distractions in the frame. Nice. Kathy

This is a nice image with an amusing twist. The bird itself is very sharp with a clear eye and well defined details in the plumage and legs/feet. The neutral background enables the main subject to stand out. A pleasure to view.
