I know you waited until today to post this photo because you figured it would be easier to get high ratings on a Sunday. LOL Since this indeed is an excellent shot, I think this was a good idea.
To me it is the long shadow from the bird doing this photo more than anything, and of course also the all neutral background. Both the bird and the shadow is standing out from it in an excellent way, and your stop action is perfect.
Your photo is also pin sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the bird. The exposure is perfect and I so much like the limited color pallet.
The cropping you did could not have been better, and the bird has got a very good position off to the left. This is indeed a beautiful and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

birdie would be humming 'me and my shadow" as he is walking by huh? wink. the clarity is great. the angle of the shot of the bird and shadow on ground is great. the capture of the light is great. the image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. good eye and great job overall

Beautiful crisp photography on Egret with its long shadow. Details are spot on in its feather formations,gangly legs and long toed feet. Stern look and long sharp bill finish this natural take of bird in its natural surrounds.Your placement with shadow is well cropped to add punch to this .Good luck.
