What a wonderful view you have given - gives me a grand feeling looking at it. The lighting is wonderful over the entire image - wondering if that is fog but enjoying it! :-)) Great detail as well. Love this shot. Thanks for sharing.

God has truly created a most magnificent world. Your photograph highlights this truth. Can there be any more majestic sight? This is truly beautiful, and pure.

A lovely view of a grand place. The hazy look of the deep valley helps pop the foreground cliffs. The subdued colors and contours of the landscape is great.

A really good canyon shot.
I like the composition, the lighting and how the strata of the rocks is so clearly defined in the image.
I also like the haze that helps to bring out the clarity of the foreground.
Well done!

Hi nikman
This is one of those shots that just draws you into it. From the cloudy mist to the jagged cliffs in the front. From the mist to the forefront the lighting is wonderful and so is the clarity. Love the angle of the shot and how it goes around the bend.
Very Nicely Done! :o)

A brilliant picture of the Grand Canyon appearing though a thin blue haze but with the colourful strata layers showing us the different rocks that make up each layer their colours changes depending on the way the sunlight hits off it & the moisture on the rocks the deep gorge of the river leading us into the heart of the picture. Artistic composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

It's on my Bucket list..so far I've only seen it from a plane flying over at 28.000 feet.. my neighbour wanted me to put down the blind so he could watch the film...I'm afraid I refused saying he could watch the film again but I might never fly over the canyon on a clear day again.

really amazing your shots are. so pure and graceful, even with such a rocky landscape, you make it so inviting and fantastic view. reminds me of that song, "i'll see you in far off places". great work.

This one is difficult in as much as its almost two photos, the front mountain is clear but the other part is to hazy, not sure why,did you take this through glass in the helicopter, think if it had been a misty backdrop then tis would have worked better, just find the haze a tad distracting.,but the overall front bit is quite good...brian

Thanks for your nice, thoughtful review. Yes, I did take it through the plastic of the helicopter window but they scene was misty in the background!

Truly GRAND capture of the canyon with a unique POV from a helicopter. You have great focus and nice use of natural sun light. But the haze has caused loss of details. I apologize for being Repetition in telling you to run your work through a UV filter. It will truly help your images pop.
By not setting white balance manually or using Kelvin Scale, the haze is not controlled.
The filter will help bring out the details much better that adjustments with contrast.
Nice shot Nik, but some work is needed to bring out the details.

Many thanks for your nice, thoughtful and thorough review! My photo here seems to have caused reviewers to fall into one of 2 camps: either they like the haze or they dislike the haze! Up there in the helicopter I did not really have time to think of using a filter. Can such images be run through the equivalent filter in say photoshop?

Hi Nik... You misunderstood... There is no filter in camera... Most do not shoot full manual here. Meaning they shoot in Auto/Shutter/Aperture.
The camera then decided settings for you.
Shooting in M/ Manual...You are in TOTAL control.
Photography is ALL about light. Each color has a temperature. Setting white balance/exposure compensation/ISO all manually reduce the loss of details because you get Exposure set in camera.
The UV Haze filter I am referring to is in an editing program. photo Shop or Photoshop Elements 12 has it. If you do not have it Topaz offers it.

If you fix the photo let me know, I will change my rating.
As for what others feel about it... We all have different POV...Mine is technical.. if one has been here for a while...Auto shooting is for beginners.. and when I joined this site 5 yrs ago. It was a learning site...People gave camera settings in notes to learn and grow.. white balance can be controlled manually and when it is...You never worry about loosing details.
I use this site to learn and teach...I take my time in each Review I write and I review on camera techs.

Capturing this photo during a helicopter flight takes this photo to an even greater level. Breathtaking, and it shows the vastness of the canyon as well.
