Lovely lit capture of this beauty stirring the serenity of the water's surface with his reflection. Love the lighting, the rich color of his beak and focal precision in the plumage.

Breaking the rules, or expanding your range of creativity? I can honestly say that most of the swan photos I've seen including mine show the whole swan, with or without reflection.
Your take on a "Traditional" view is is breath taking.
Where do I begin: The reflection is so complete and the feather detail rivals, in its on way, the exquisite detail of the actual swan. Getting such incredible detail of the water droplets from top to bottom is simply magnificent. What about the "Rule of Thirds"?
The master stroke of this piece is how the light plays on the water droplets that frame its face, They are of such size and distribution they enhance the catch light of the eye. the rest of the profile continues to display great detail from the apex at the eye to the end of the beak. Taken altogether, the portrayal of the swan pops! The dimly lit white Lillies? in the background, let you know they are there but don't brag. A masterpiece.
A beautiful swan on cool display for all to see, passes by the beckons and false promises of flowers off the bloom, after all, "I'm beautiful swan on cool display for all to see".
Keep breaking the rules.

Great image against the black background. Great reflection and beautiful contrast of the bright beak in the almost total black and white composition. The whole subject is well positioned in the frame . Nice job , Well done!

Wonderful entry for the contest. I think you have selected a grand rule and this image works perfectly and is beautiful. You do know though that the white out captures me... wish that were listed in the breaking a rule thingy... No zingy on it because it fits also into the contest but... if this fellow weren't in the contest you'd get a zingy my friend! I would push you to reduce the white power of his lower body...Sorry! Great artistic flair to this image though, perfect entry for the contest. Thanks for sharing and good luck!

Here's a most striking example of rule breaking. Powerful in so many ways: initial impact of the stark black and whites. The drops on the swan's neck - which are also reflected in the water! The bill is brilliant. Good luck in the contest!

Very pretty and I love your tall crop. Your focus is good and your whites hold a lot of detail. I wish we had a touch of tonal separation between the black on the birds head and the background. You might also consider cloning out that brown bit to the left of the bird's beak on the top section.

I do like the composition of the mute swans neck. The focus is very good detailing the feathers of the head all the way down to the reflections head noticing also the water beads. What is breaking the rules? I did not deduct any thing because it is a good shot of the Swan. The black knob disappears in the black back ground and the body behind the neck is a blow out on the white balance. Good luck with the contest and thanks for sharing.

a great contest entry, as I love the clarity with reflection as the swan looks healthy and a great coat.
I love how the small droplets are in it's coat and make a different look on the water.
thank you for sharing.
good luck.
always,
ron

This is clearly braking the photographic rules, but at the same time it is almost working, because it is such a beautiful photo of this white swan against all the black. It is however some spots in the black I would try remove.
Your photo is nice and sharp showing such clear and well defined details in the bird, and also the exposure is very good. The reflection is indeed well captured.
It is a lovely and well taken photo, and a good entry for the contest, and I wish you luck with the contest.
