good use of the pastels ..which personally i can't get on with and have to use pan pastels to sketch prior to painting. You have captured the beauty and magic of this cat and the eyes are just hypnotic...great work

What a beautiful kitty. Rik certainly looks like he loved you. You can tell partly because of the calmness in the nose. But mostly because he sat still long enough for you to get the picture.

I focus on the mystery, the 'from the beyond' feeling, your artwork evokes. The fur texture and lighting are 'dreamy,' the sheen on the fur is amazing. The eyes have great initial impact, their color and again the sense of a dream make them special.

I think this is one of the best cat portraits you have done, and you for sure know to handle this medium. It is especially the eyes you have done in such an excellent way, even if I personally would have added a tad more green to them. Rik for sure must have been a handsome cat, and it is sad he is no longer with you.
This portrait is done paying really good attention to details, and because of the very good use of high lights, you have brought out the fine shine and textures of the black fur, The whiskers are also standing out really well defined.
The framing of the picture is perfect and I like the slight diagonal placement of Rik's head on the canvas. Indeed a beautiful and well crafted chalk drawing, and I wish you luck with the contest.
