It may have something to do with the way his next and head a poised. The catch with a raised leg and foot creates a very humorous pose. Lighting and focus is right on along with the crop. You have framed the bottom of the scene with a very natural looking environment. My guess would be that something is soon to by lunch.

A really nice shot. I can see that he is scratching his neck but don't think that would make his feathers stand up like this. I like the colors and the great setting. The behavior is certainly eye catching. Good luck in the contest.

Very interesting shot. I like that the heron is in action and not just standing there. This really gives one a sense of what herons are like, what they do.

I thought the story was "I have this dame itch on my neck." lol Beautiful taken with lovely soft light. Excellent focus and exposure. Very well composed with nice positioning of the bird in the frame.

A wonderful photograph. Naturally amusing. I really like the way the heron is posing, just waiting to grab the next tasty fish. Really good job.

You've told a dramatic story in a masterful way. I love bird photos. Especially big guys like this one.

All the story parts are displayed in such tight crisp detail that I have ever scene. The surrounding waters blurred focus is just enough to insure id of place. The position of the bird in hunt mode, causes the viewer to linger longer than expected, in anticipation of the strike.
