a good capture of this holy place, unfortunately not holy to everybody:
there are 2 more points you could mention:
Originally a small lake in the midst of a quiet forest, the site has been a meditation retreat for wandering mendicants and sages since deep antiquity. The Buddha is known to have spent time at this place in contemplation. Two thousand years after Buddha's time, another philosopher-saint came to live and meditate by the peaceful lake. This was Guru Nanak (1469-1539), the founder of the Sikh religion;
You could also mention the "Operation blue star" followed by the assassination of Indira Gandhi, few months after my visit;

Wow! Your brief comments speak volumes about your knowledge of the Indian history. Actually I did't want to bring politics into this. Indira Gandhi created a Frankenstein by the name of Bhindranwale which led to a lot of bloodshed inside the temple complex and that ultimately led to her downfall and assassination. As we say, Karma cannot be avoided, it sure comes back to bite your ass. She has bad Karma all through her life which peaked with the Blue Star operation.

I was always filled with admiration for the Indian democraty but saddened by the violence and corruption, so opposite to Gandhi's precepts.

Such a beautiful night scene of the Gold Temple. Thank you for your wonderful artists notes. What a beautiful place to visit to learn and share a wonderful spiritual journey and learn the teachings of egalitarianism and humility.
