I've never seen a photograph quite like this. It makes me very sad to see that he is in a cage and all we can see clearly are his fingers. It leaves the object to your own imagination. Thanks for sharing.

Comment from SCHATZLING
Very poignant indeed. The color you selected enhances the story telling ability even more so just as you anticipated it would. Good choice.
For this contest, an excellent entry...YES, VERY SAD....but more of the best stories from a photo are the sad ones. Sad stories seem to say more because to me they go down deeper within yourself...they go deep within your soul pouring out those feelings buried deep within. We all prefer happy and celebratory stories I'm sure; however more feelings; more sorrow; more stories can be written and talked about with images such as these...more outpouring of the self, if you will.
The photo itself...the close up of the nails coming though the entrapment (cage).... wondering what that animal feels at that precise moment. What he thinks. What he is going through at the moment in time that you snapped this show...does he show signs of anxiety....despair....loneliness....bewilderment....torment....abuse....protection...are they all negative feelings or is there a slight chance of a positive thought. It would be nice to perhaps think of something less evil.... Maybe this cage, just temporary, is just a container as a means of transportation to an end result of a better home....more freedom....more interaction with the same species.
This is a remarkable shot. Thanks so much for sharing....you got my vote. YOU will be in the top three....well, you should be.

An interesting presentation but not sure that without your information you can really tell what the story is - I know I would have struggled. Once reading info I can understand - like the coloring you have used.

It's actually an Orangutan ;) thanks Theo
Comment from Gail Ross
It kind of looks like it could be tortoise toes. Whatever it is, being caged is sad. Interesting perspective with the edge of the cage being at an angle. Very creative.

Yes, worth a thousand words. So tragic, I can't even go to zoos anymore. Your capture is well done with excellent focus and exposure. Your use of selective color is bold and effective. I love your use of line and slight diagonal tilt. Very well done and makes a bold yet sad statement.

Oh my goodness...this is amazing. The initial impact is huge for me. The story was already in my mind and my heart before I read your artist notes. Excellent!! Wow! Cyber six! Good luck in the contest!

Are those fingers? Where did you get this photo? You are right about this having a trapped feeling. Your focus, framing and lighting are all good. The sideways look makes it feel more dramatic. Thanks for sharing :)

This is a brilliant, thought provoking and very well taken picture of a moment. Sad, but completely perfect timing and focus on what this is about.
