wrong: the position of the cat's ears indicate that he is afraid;

Good colors and focus. I think the drama of the cat's reaction is suppressed by its lesser presence in the frame. The dog who is not the hero of your story (I think) takes up too much of the frame. Story is great but the picture, in my opinion at least, could perhaps with a different crop be stronger on the frightened end of the story.

thanks paulah;
I cropped only the empty space at the top: I really don't see what else I could crop

That happens to me so often! I got the moment but no crop can make it really right.

This reminds me of our dogs. Old dog, terrified of the new 8 week old puppy. But I love this, I'm just imagining that cat jumping on that dogs face and saying, not today dog. I love the brightness of your photo, so clear. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent capture of a friendly looking dog who startled a cat! The posture of the dog seems to indicate that he means no harm. The cat is holding her ground! Pleasing background and good cropping.

Ah now this one does tell a story with the cats ears back in defensive mode but the dog looks quite friendly. A little bit tight composition in foreground but overall good lighting and focus.

One inch closer and your nose is history. The way it's cropped it almost looks like they're standing on a wall, which is interesting. I also like the cat's shadow. Nice focus and lighting. Well done.

A very nice shot that captures the essence of the situation perfectly. The colors are great and the cropping is fine considering you cut off all 4 feet of the dog. Good luck in the contest.

Sorry, not my favourite I am afraid. Although the exposure ir very good with backlight chopping of the legs, for me, not so much
I know that this are quick moments shots but...

thanks;
I prefered a closer view of the cat's face rather than the dog's toes;
of course it is a snapshot: no time for framing, focusing.....
