I love the green on green of the peppermint beetle and the leaf. I love the back which looks like heavy armor hammered out.
Great Find and capture of this emerald green beetle.
I have never seen a green beetle before..just ugly brown ones.
Nice work Cleo!

Thank you very much for your kind review. This beetle is indeed pretty, but hard to find. I is very little and it tend to hide. :o)

I like the creative name/imaginative title!
Verdant overtone is visually soothing and appealing.
The shimmering light reflection on the wing accentuates this image aesthetically...
Ideal off centered framing with ample marginal spaces all throughout the frame.
Sharply focused. Well lit.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.
Thanks for sharing...

Thank you very much for your review. I appreciate your encouragement as well as your short, but to the point technical remarks.

I think this is a Chrysolina menthastri, (Mint Beetle). It has the same iridescent green color with the tiny pin point indentations. They are found mainly in the south and up to the Midlands of England and Wales in May through September.

You have captured the iridescent shimmer and the indentations very nicely. Your exposure and DOF are excellent. I really like the rich detail that can seen on the beetle and the leaf. The antenna shape and feet stand out just as well as the trichomes or hairs of the peppermint leaf. I might have softened the background a little but it isn't necessary and doesn't detract from the aesthetic appeal that you have achieved. It's a beautiful close up and it's cropped nicely.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments and especially thank you for checking on the beetle.I believe you are right, but your identification makes this beetle even more curious. This individual was found in my backyard in central Texas, USA on the 12th of March 2017, on peppermint plants which I have growing for several years on the same place. I checked the Internet, but it seems that the beetle was not found in this area ever before. The beetle might have been involuntary imported by trade or tourism. I think this could explain why nobody here could identify it.

That is fascinating! I wonder if bug experts (entomologists) at any Universities near you would be interested in your find. Maybe that's silly, but you never know. :)

I have send out some copies to those who might be interested, but have no answer jet. :-)

Such good notes here Cleo and a really wonderful image of your little guy. I'm afraid though that I don't know a lot about specific species of these guys.

Beautiful crisp focus. Your beetle and the peppermint leaf are so well detailed that I can see the little hairs on the foliage here. Love the way the light is hitting the beetle making that gorgeous iridescent shell shine. Lovely natural color and spot on exposure. It's a really well put together macro shot and I wish you the best w/ it in the contest. Perfect entrant.

Thank you much for another encouraging and throughout review and your kind wishes.
This little guy gets a real mystery. Nobody seems to know what species that is, not even the experts on our site.

lol...well he's pretty pretty anyway. I just realized I used your name in these reviews. I hope that's not going to be a problem for you. Apologies.....I went to your page after your review of my piece that's why I saw it was you.

    Yes, pretty he is.
There might be some, but I don't think that many people read reviews written by others, so I hope this will not get a problem.

Love how you caught the light on that beautiful metallic shell. The clarity of the shot along with the lighting make a great entry for the contest. Good Luck! :o) Helvi

I know nothing about beetles, so can't help ya narrow down the species. Great pic!! Wonderful clarity shows off the finite details of the beetle's shell and little feet. Good natural lighting and depth of field. Good luck in the contest!

A very nice clear shot that should have enabled me to identify it. But such was not the case. I like the lighting that puts such a nice glow on the shell. The colors are great and the details are well shown. Good luck in the contest.
