This is a good shot of the bird's unusual crown. I'd like to see more of the wings and feet but I'm sure this was a spur of the moment capture and you had to be quick to get it. I like how well the underside of the wings stand out and the color on the face shows nicely. I would like to see one of these birds in person.

this "exotic" bird is an African crwned crane; very nice stop action while stretching his wings;
sharp focus;
of course if you had the whole wings§.......

It is quite a challenge to capture the exact moment with wildlife. This picture has energy. Something about the background, the way the branch intersects with the wing, is a little distracting, but overall still a fascinating photo.

I believe it is a Crowned Crane. I do not know what he is doing either. He is banded so someone is keeping track. Was he in an aviary or a zoo? Interesting capture and well photographed image.

Thanks for the identification and nice review! I got this shot just a moment before he took off. Took it in an open nature reserve.

That crown on his/her head is something else. But, the detail you caught in it is wonderful. Excellent in so many ways. Focus is great. Details sharp. Exposure and balance. Well done.

Nice shot of this bird. I would of liked to see the whole wing span of this majestic bird and if he could look up to smile (wink wink). Thanks for sharing.
