Yes a beautiful capture of this bird with outspread wings. Great lighting to show the details of the feathers and make-up of this bird. Good composition. Well done.

You caught the emotion of this bird, so cropping off wings is no big deal (HC BRESSON lopped off body parts too, but the emotion had to be there).
The image feels as if you desaturated it somewhat to make it more artistic, a painting if you will.
Your background has nice bokeh and tell us about the environment of this bird. I do like the centered position (his head).
It is too bad about that log right under his wing as it robs the image from stronger visual impact, but sometimes it is what it is...I wonder if you could clone it out...(or even want to) but if you do make sure you use very LARGE format and soft brush.
Overall, it is a captivating image, one with soul.

Glad you enjoyed the shot! Your very detailed and considered opinions are much appreciated!! No I do not want to clone the log out as I feel it contributes to the wild environment of the scene.

Love images of the Crowned Cranes and to get it with a wide wingspan is great other than you framed it too tightly. Think the color/contrast needs to be adjusted as the headpiece looks very pale instead of golden. Nice focus and dof. :)

Your focus on him is excellent...so well detailed w/ a most wonderful view of those crazy head feathers....long breast feathers and multi-colored wings. Colors are good and I especially like how well the brown of the wing is shown. A shame your lens did not allow you to capture the entire wing. It is a good shot nevertheless.
