This is a very crisp and clear photo of the bird just before taking off. It looks so majestic in this position of spreading its wings, and really inspiring to look at. Great use of colors that are just rightly balanced, with all the attention going towards the birds just before taking off.

Wow! A wonderful capture!! Is the wing span as large as a large Heron? I also see that he is banded. A very interesting capture in many ways.
I think his brown coloring under his wings is beautiful...and of course his headdress! This surely must be a male of this species. He is quite the show off.. :D
Great camera techs throughout!! Thanks for sharing!

You're very welcome. I am always amazed when a heron flies over and leaves such a large shadow....thought this bird may be part heron with it's long legs. Awesome shot!!

This is actualy a photo of a a Gray Crowned Crane and they can get to be about 3 foot tall. Beautiful action shot of him about to take off. Good color and focus. Good lighting and framing as well. Nicely done

This is an amazing photo of the bird "doing something" - but what was it about to? I think this is such a good picture with great DOF, lighting perfect, the clarity of the bird is fantastic and to have seen it in Lancashire, UK makes it even better because it's hard to see these things here!!!

What a spectacular and unusual bird. It looks like it's wearing a hat. I wonder if that only raises when it takes flight? The wings are gorgeous. The one on my left reminds me of elegant brown drapes with a beautiful white cornice. It also has a band on it's leg. I wonder if it's being monitored? Well done.

Many thanks for your nice and detailed review! Glad you enjoyed the shot!! Do not know about the hat, but because its living in a nature reserve it could well be being monitored.

This is a great shot! I love the way you were able to capture the bird in motion with the wings spread and moving towards something. This is truly an impressive photo with a very nice and natural background!

A great setting for this African Crowned Crane. Most of the time with birds you go with the longest lens you have, but occasionally a little less is better. I think this is one of those situations. The pose is great and the colors are nice.

About to take flight for sure! Great shot of this crane. Perfect clarity and wonderful natural lighting. I love that the wingspan is slightly cut off, it adds to the greatness of its stretch. Very cool!

This is supposed to be a 6er had not because of the cropped wing tips & right foot!
Very Perfect timing!
Pin sharp focusing.
Subdued lighting.
Is that a slight overblown white or is it really that WHITE?!?
Hazy verdant backdrop with driftwood & stones lend a natural setting feel...
Semi diagonal framing adds dynamics to this still action capture.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.
Thanks for sharing...

Many thanks for your detailed and humorous review! The edge of the wings was very white, but I do suspect it was over-exposed.
