Oh such good notes sg!! I just love it when I can read about something w/ which I am not familiar and come away knowing something brand new!

Very nice focus here....there's a lot to see and it is all very well detailed w/ your torii and the tall green trees surrounding it being especially crisp and sharp. Colors are are lovely and natural and your image is nicely exposed.

Another interesting and well done piece from your travels in Japan sg. I like this.

Nice composition here. I like the arch. Reminds me of the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco. Nice color and detail too. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Supergold

Good initial impact. For me good memories of roaming the parks on weekends under the April showers.

This is a good story image. I like the people in their variety of colors and of course the umbrellas. The gate is so popular for a mix of entrances and the heavy forest beyond is great.
The colored tile on the entry way melds well with the other elements of this image. Nicely done.

Thank you for sharing this one.

Once again, an interesting subject with a history lesson thrown in for free. Well proportioned photo emphasising the size of the tori. good colour, background and DOF.

A beautiful and well taken photograph of this wonderful example of this stone Torii, a pleasure I have not had to personally see with my own eyes. Great DOF with the trees in the background, lighting is good and a nice array of colours in there too - lovely picture.

I have seen these gates in photos, but didn't know what they represented. I thought is was a symbol of a word written in Japanese. Is there a word that looks like that? Does it mean "sacred"? What a beautiful walkway with all the trees.

What a fantastic view this is of the beautiful gate leading into the shrine. I have seen the gorgeous bridge you posted and the shrine itself. What fabulous photos to have of this wonderful and rare place in this world.

Powerful capture of this Japanese gate. The angle to you shot is what offers it up with perfect power in the frame. Great technical skill as well - the color and lighting is perfection to the scene. Great detail as well. You go to soooooo many different places, grand places! Thanks for sharing.

This is really Coooool Fred!
That Torii Gate is a beautiful piece of architectural wonder.
It looks so tall amoung the trees and the people seem so small in scale. Love the umbrellas and shooting in the rain with fine flat light.
Focus, Exposure, POV and details are all fab here.
I kinda have wishes you could go again take it with no one around.
But I wonder if it's ever void of people at any given time.
You need to get a job on the travel channel!
I think the list of where you have not been is very short!!
Nice work! ;)

    thanks a lot Sandra for your great comments;
    would like to pease you but it is almost impossible to find a torii without people: what I just avoid is are the huge groups of people following their guide holding a flag;
    at least the people give an indication of the scale;
    I have another one, the tallest in Japan with more people;
    but there is a famous one by the water, maybe in the next days....

    It was a personal wish...And shared thought...Living with snowbirds half the year I understand... I love summer and rainy days when the wetlands are void of people.

More of 'supergolds' excellent camera technique that I have come to expect and respect.

DOF goes on forever into the distance.

The frame is expertly composed and exposed.

Colors all appear natural and not forced. Even balance throughout the take.

An above average example of ancient Japanese architecture ... B-)) Bob
