A nice and almost mysterious look bloom shot presented here! Your angled and off-centre composition works very well. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Well done and good luck!

Intense color! I love being able to see deep inside the tulip, like peering into a secret hideaway. Good angle and frame. I like the diagonal tilt and the sharp contrast between petal and background.

"Mastering the art of macro and close-up photography in nature takes time and patience." - Mike Moats

The color range and lighting of the take are well balanced and contribute nicely to the overall eye appeal of your composition.

If your camera settings had been spot on you wouldn't have had to resort to sharpening in post capture.

I am a little confused by the framing of this shot. If the objective was a "macro" of the flower then the whole blossom should be visible and sharply detailed in its entirety - edge to edge and top to bottom. On the other hand if the goal was an intimate study of the interior structures of the blossom you have achieved good focusing and detail. Unfortunately only a portion of the of the flowers innards are visible. Had you framed the pestle in the center of the viewfinder I think all of the interior would be seen. Add to that a little fill light and it would have been a spectacular shot.

In macro photography DOF is a key element to success. I take a lot of macro shots and over time I have found that It is always better to stop down rather than open up. Typically I am working at f/22 or higher.

With regards to macros the goal you are practicing for is to see a take on your computer screen that does not need to be cropped, sharpened or need lens effects. It should stand on its own merits.

Thanks for sharing ... B-)) Bob

Thank you. I really find your tips very helpful. The biggest problem I had with this is that I took this with my cell phone and not my Cannon. This was just one of those times I found this flower by chance and tried to get the best shot I could. But your tips are very useful for future photos

I know so well of whence you speak. Sometimes you make the best of it with what you have. You have an eye for this medium, just keep shooting and learning. Bob

A very nice view down the throat of this tulip. The colors are outstanding and the detail in the stamens is outstanding. Great cropping and a strong first impression that should serve you well in the contest.

How fantastic is this gorgeous flower. Spring brings so many surprises and delights and this is one of them. I love the way they fold in such neat little ways, showing off their colors and textures. Never thought to see what goes on inside before. Great idea. Best of luck.

A great macro shot taken with great precision and clarity, capturing the lively colours and shades of not only the petals but the emerging stigma as well. Great framing also, top photo.
