This is a cool idea of showing both shots. Perfectly wonderful shot of the heron on the left and the what could have been a wonderful shot on the right! The right side has some nice qualities; I like the water droplets from the bird's toes and the expression on the face of the nutria is great. I have never seen one of those before. What a bummer that you didn't get the shot you were after but the almost got it shot is interesting to view.

Since I have been trying to assemble a collection of small birds in flight I can't begin to guess at how many shots I get with "partials". A rather nice shot of the nutria though.

Isn't that maddening! I missed the wings on a heron not once but twice when watching something near it! The focus is very good on the first heron! The nutria is an interesting little critter too! The color is great! Well done and thanks for sharing! Lori

Fred,
A beautiful collage of this pair of pictures showing what can happen when photographing birds & animals that don't understand you want them to stay still until you've clicked!!! Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera & editing techniques & sharp focus.

Haha a great sequence showing the story you describe well - it's a shame but you can't win them all eh! A lovely shot of the Heron on the left, capturing it in fine detail standing quite calmly, and obviously changed it's mind when it saw the Nutria, which unfortunately you couldn't capture to the full extent. It still looks pretty cool with it's nose bobbing up and the heron saying "I'm off!" just in front - a fun pair of photos and story.

I like how you have the two photos combined. Nice to see the whole heron with its beautiful colors. The take off one was interesting to see his long legs. A bonus to get the nutria in the background.
