Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Holy Helleborus Blue Lady in the evening Doc!
Love that rich merlot color, the fine focus your POV with the rich Burgundy and green leaves.
Fine capture, informative notes and well balanced within the frame.
Bravo ;)

This is so gorgeous! I have absorbed your artist notes more than once...as you know I have a line green hellebores...that often carries a vein of pink. But not always. So your story of your bed of these plants is so interesting to me. I have never seen this one...ever. And I will covet it now....as this rich wine color is unexpected in the early blooms of a perennial garden. What a delight this must be for you and for your other hellebores to welcome. I do think they choose whether they want to live together or not...don't you?

Your detail is amazing. The exposure that you have accomplished at this time of day is perfection! Award winning! And your framing is artistic. A framer that would be purchased by many to hang on their walls....including me! Wow! I am soooo happy you are out in your gardens...!!! xoxo B

    awwww...such a wonderful review Becky. Thank you. These HELLEBORES are THE most expensive plant in my gardens and, as you know, everything can't be right up front. I tucked this little HELLEBORE bed out behind some Green-Headed Coneflower when the GHCF was quite young....lol..OMG big mistake. The GHCF has gotten HUGE and I am constantly yanking it out of the HELLEBORE bed. You're also right about the color......the pastels are not my favorites and this guy here is the first deep, rich color I see in my gardens. LOVE that! The PEONY bed (the biggest bed in my gardens) is just getting ready to blossom though so another day or two and I'll have a bunch of burgundy, deep reds....and a few pinks and whites too, of course.

    Anyway Bec. Thank you so much for going back and having a look at this guy.......for your always kind words AND for the gold star you shared w/ it. You are a sweetheart!

Great shot! You capture the delicate details in the flowers. I like your choice to not pick the flower to get an individual.

I am glad that others have staged a shot. :) The name Blue Lady is a bit strange but oh well. The colors and the lighting make this a stunning scene. The crop and focus give us a great look at this beauty.

    I never thought of it as 'staging' it Gary but I suppose you're right. Now if I had cut it and brought it inside and done all kinds of things to it then THAT I would consider staging. Either way though I do appreciate you having a look and thanks so much for the lovely review you've given it! As for the names...lol....I agree...sometimes they are just crazy and make no sense at all!!

    Staging is not a negative thing. It happens when a bloom will not face the right direction or something is in the way. My day lilies are a perfect example. So, no guilt or negative connotations. :)

    Oh good point Gary. I honestly never thought of it that way but you are right...lol...I am just so used to saying things like "glad you haven't over-worked this to death" So thank you!!

Nice and interesting flower. Like the fact that the petals have no excessive reflection on them with them showing off well their deep red. Like placing the focus on the eye of a person, I believe that the center of the plant should be sharp and these appear to be rather soft. Like the composition, good background with the red and green playing off each other rather nicely.

    Well hello there Charles! Nice to see you. Do appreciate you checking out my piece here. I agree w/ you that blossoms should be crisp. This one is on my screen....or I wouldn't have posted it. May not look as sharp on the FAR upload. Thank you though for the thorough review.

Isn't it amazing that the blue-purple plum bulb opened up to this rich, deep burgundy color?...wow! I would not have imagined that the inside petals were this color. The lines in the petals stand out well in this shot and I like how sharp the saw toothed edges on the leaves show too. I'm glad you posted a shot of the blooms, it's cool to see the end result :)

    There are so many things blossoming in my gardens right now Grace that I get nuts trying to decide which one to post....lol....if I stopped taking photos now (which I would NEVER do) I would still have images to post for a very long time. I like to remember to post some of the blossoms at different stages so do really appreciate you checking out both of these pieces. Thank you for the lovely review too.

a wonderful close up of these beautiful blue flowers; lol;
I like the texture o the petals: like a deep red velvet; some flowers are rather plum-red, therefore the blue; like for orchids, blue is more expensive;
excellent idea to let them in the natural setting; I don't like with a modificated too sophisticated bg;

I think this is a truly beautiful and elegant flower, and it was interesting to read your notes about how difficult it is to taken photo of them. The burgundy color is lovely against the green leaves and your main flower is standing out well.

Your photo is also nice and sharp and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen both in the stamens and the petals. I also think the exposure is spot on.

I think the cropping has worked well, but you could also have cropped a tad more on the right so that only the main flower was showing its stamens. I think it is a lovely and well taken photo Deborah.

    That's a good idea av. I never thought of it when I was cropping actually. Thank you so much for having a look and for offering a solid suggestion. Good to see you back in reviewing shape! lol

oooh i just love that deep burgundy colour..who cares if its called blue lady..its just simply delicious in its palette ..almost can compare to the silkiness of a newly poured Guiness :P..You obviously had a lot of patients in creating the right structure for this ..but i know that you have that any way as you continue to produce great wonders of nature from your sanctuary ...

    Oh yes Neil.....the framing for this one had me nuts! Such a gorgeous bloom deserves to be shown but these guys are a bit reluctant to be photographed....to say the least. A little 'prodding' from me did the trick though. Thank you so much for checking it out and your comments re: my sanctuary??? Well you are just a doll. Thank you for that as well.

Your thoughts on framing this lovely piece are spot on.

Camera tech is up to snuff as well.

That's about as deep a burgundy as I ever seen - definitely royal.

DOF gives a sharp image through out the entire frame. Sometimes keeping the background foliage in sharp focus helps the image as is the case here. I think trying for a soft bokeh to the background would have detracted to much from the impact I see here.

All aspects of the central subject are bright clear and very crisp.

I can't find anything about this take, I would recommend for change or improvement.

That last paragraph is what I write for my students for an A+ piece. But since it's you a 6 will have to do ... B-)) OMP

    Oh you are just a sweetheart OMP!! That is a wonderfully thorough review....and I definitely appreciate your kind comments on my framing of this one which I was actually quite pleased with. Did get some 'dirt' lol for including more than the main blossom....oh well, no imagination I guess. Anyway, you are just a doll for giving it such an excellent review AND an A+!!! Thank you so much Bob. OMP put a smile on my face this afternoon for sure!

    Look this was not an easy shot - I know of whenst I speak. I know you had all kinds of different frames in mind for this. I think you just found out that sometimes the old stand bys don't work and you made a decision to go with gut instinct and I for one agree with your choice. There are those purest who insist that all florals must have all petals showing with no clipped ends - To that I say "PHOOOEY". From the effort involved and the results of that effort tells me it deserved a 6 and I gave it up. OMP
