now that is a red if ever I've seen one. You have filled the frame with the subject perfectly and with it bright red plumage there is no danger of being distracted with other elements within the presentation

Great capture of this very red cardinal. I have one that comes to my feeder with his wife every day but I can't seem to get him to stay still long enough to get his picture taken. Great focus and clarity. Good composition and technique. great initial impact and a first rate contender in the contest. Great work

Thank you very much for your throughout review and your encouraging rating. I was lucky that he was holding still.

Excellent post capture techniques. You probably saved this one.

Great camera work. Settings are tack sharp. You even got the catch light in the eye - well done.

Framing is awesome. How did you get such a low angle.

DOF is superb, the entire bird is well detailed and all feathers are well detailed as well.

Overall a very well produced take of the red bird ... B-)) Bob

This is one bird I have yet to Capture. When I find them at the Wetlands, they just fly away.
You have a nice capture with nice catch light in the eye. Focus seems soft and that may be due to cropping too much/resizing.
I no longer resize my work since the upgrade on sight.
I find when I do..you see noise/pixelation.
Crop seems tight on bottom and left side. If there was a distraction, I crop it out. Then crop again adding space in and clone in that negative space.
The color red was handled well and that Captured pose with the slight tilt of his head is fabulous.
Great capture despite my view.
If you do reduce noise Let me know I will change my rating.
I don't like giving less than 5 but I also resent the high five club here that Review for coin and never actually help one grow in their work.
Good Luck ;)

Thank you much for your review and your input. I admire you courage to give less than five. I wished more reviewers would be this courageous and honest. I never post for high ratings. There are indeed bad distractions by dead weeds. I have already a blade of grass which crosse the head, cloned out but I am out of time for the contest to do the cloning on the left the dead weeds would require. My program does not include denoise filters. I tried Gaussian Blur on the background, but the noise was resistant for a reason which eludes my understanding. While the background indeed softened, the noise remained the same, maybe even increased.

Hmm..I use gaussian blur sometimes as well..
You are correct..it should have decreased the noise. Sometimes I feel our work shows better off the site. Thank you for understanding.
I miss the older members from 5 yrs ago like Donkeyoatey...Echo7 and others who gave real Reviews with apropos ratings.

I agree fully. The reviews were generally much better back than, factual with critical bite, but still kind.

Good Morning

The cardinal is very nicely presented. Sharp and clear and the colors are excellent. I really like the colors of the beak and the bright eye.

It is interesting the way the one piece of grass stands against the breast of the bird. It is just a piece of grass helps to focus attention.

The composition is good.

This is a nice image.

This is a fantastic photo and one that I have been chasing in my yard for quite a while. I love it and don't know why but I guess its that special color that they show off. I wish you the best in the contest and good luck with this my favorite. JackJr.

red is a tough color to photo as many camera do not handle red very well or have a tendency to flare, like the red, nice job on the eye and the background blur, good luck in the contes.

A wonderful close up shot of this gorgeous red cardinal, shot with great timing and DOF, and from a good POV with great lighting - the clarity is not perfect but I'm not going to drop marks for that as this rich and beautiful red (and a bit of black lol) bird has been captured so beautifully, looking so cute. A great submission for the contest and best of luck! :)

Lovely shot of this fellow. You have great lighting on his face and breast. Nice sharp focus and sparkle in his eye. The background is not distracting with the slight blur and keeps the attention totally on subject. There is some noise but he is well positioned in the frame. A very nice shot of this pretty cardinal. Good luck in the contest.
