Wow! A cyber six here, Grace. I absolutely cannot stop studying this beautiful wolf. I too am drawn to black animals...the most difficult to photograph. Not for you though !! You have every hair sharp and the eye as a completely natural color..not lost in the shadows of his brow. Even the nose is beautifully accomplished. You have avoided that typical shiny spot that is almost always on a black nose. This guy seems to be aging a bit..unless that is the normal gray showing through.
Your framing is excellent...the nose and the ears cutting a nice diagonal through your frame. The bg is still earthy and does not interfere with the pure beauty of this wolf.
Your notes are much appreciated. I always read notes. So much so that when there aren't any I feel cheated out of the entire experience of the post. Yours are excellent! It is a pleasure sharing this site with you and viewing your outstanding choices for your compositions.

Beautiful capture of this gorgeous black Wolf. Like you, I'm drawn towards animals with black fur and have had many black cats over the years. Our dogs were Border Collies with mainly black hair also!

Shepherds are my favorite breed! They are so intelligent and loyal. Maybe that's part of why I like wolves so much too :)

Considering the zoo barriers that were a challenge..this is an outstanding Capture with sharp focus, excellent eye clarity and crisp fur details. Love the profile pose close up showing him relaxed, content and not bothered by you or your lens.
White balance is controlled PERFECTLY showing fine details in his gorgeous fur.

Plus he is a deer head not apple. So he does not have a pushed in snout or bug eyes.
He is a handsome black Chunky! =)

I understand that there is considerable color variation in gray wolves. At the local zoo they have a pair and the male is black and the female is white. A nice shot with fine exposure for the black fur and a beautiful eye.
