Endearing informative notes...
I always pity children learning school the hard way as I can relate when I was in a remote pueblo experienced the same hardships during my elementary grades.

Innovative compositional style.
Interesting impasto strokes creating a 3D effect protruding from the frame.

Fine facial features and palpable skin & hair textures.

Verdant foliage lends a visually soothing backdrop.

Excellent use of lighting in depicting variation of skintones.

Impressive portrait modification...

Thanks for sharing!

I love the feel and style of this art. I personally love portraits, and this picture tells a sort of story. I appreciate the fact that this looks like an ordinary man, not some made up beauty. It captures life.

This is stunning. His expression is perfectly done. This surely deserves 6. Background which is green fits his brown skin color. His detailed hair amazes me. Very subtle and clear.

Well done and thanks for sharing.

This is absolutely incredible! I just am amazed that you can created this on your computer on a blank screen. Do you use a pad with a stylist or your mouse? Wow!

I think the initial impact for me is the coloration. The green implies Jungle...as in your title. The blacks and grays of the hair are a beautiful blend other than a flat black. The skin tones are true and the shadows are dramatic yet clearly in place so as not to interfere with the features of the face.

The detail in the glasses is crucial...as they are the most photo like...compared to the impressionistic style created by your knives. That tint in the glasses is so very realistic. And the frames are proportioned perfectly to his face. His mouth is also excellent. That is another feature that I find difficult in drawing a portrait...and the ear! They eye is behind the glasses..but very effective that way. The white shirt adds that final color needed to keep this entire canvas true and fresh in color. Picking it up a bit at the top is ingenious. You are awesome, Cleo. Incredible work. Sorry I am out of sixes already today. A cyber 10!!!

Thank you very much for your throughout and thoughtful review and your cyber-six. It feels like a real one.
I do not use a mouse. A mouse is not sensitive enough. I use a touchpad, but not use a stylist or pen. I move my tools with my fingers. Usually I apply a raster and then blow the picture up, to paint it square by square. Normally I have a scratch beside my computer. For the gasses I used my smallest brush 1/100. I spend many hours on those glasses to get them right.

I cannot imagine the time such a work must take. Thank you for your explanation of your tools. You are a true, modern day artist.... wow!

Thanks again! This kind of digital painting cannot be done in a hurry. The time needed is different for each painting. It depends on the subject and the size of the picture. People especially portraits are the most complicated. I cannot work all the time on the same picture, because on gets stubborn and does not see the error anymore. I worked of and on this portrait for almost a year. I started several times over. I guess about 100-150 hours including all the versions I had to discard.

Wow Cleo!! That is amazing! Is is scary to think you could lose your digital work that you are saving for that long? Where do you save it?

I do save it on an external hard drive. :o)

Wow, I wasn't sure if this was a painting or started out as a photograph. This is extraordinary. Your technical/computer skills are amazing. He looks so real. The way the light touches his forehead and rolls off his nose and your use of shadowing really gives great dimensionality to it. Incredible portrait to say the least.

Thank you very much for your enormously encouraging comments and rating.
I used several scratches on paper and some photos I made when he visited at my place. I was visiting the jungle school, but I was unable to work there due to the unfavorable circumstances, which gave me even more respect about his dedication and devotion to his work.
