Cant believe that people do not see loons very often, I must be a lucky one to actually live with them,,they are natural to me to see on a lake every day,,this is a very good composition, very well done to get those colours and markings, love the diamonds on the feathers, great shadow on the water,, I wish you would have had at least one vote,,I was the other photo is the contest with the two loons meeting in the early morning mist of the lake,,I didnt vote for this contest as I was out camping and getting more photos of these wonderful birds,,great photo you have here

You are LUCKY, I wish I had the opportunity to see loons a lot! Thanks for letting me know you felt that at least someone should have voted for my image. It makes feel someone liked what I posted and that means a LOT. I'm sorry you didn't any votes either. I thought your image was worthy of one. I appreciate your kind words VERY MUCH!! Thanks for stopping by to review!

It is a bit soft on focus but I love the creativity and the effort to make this shot work. I too have seen the Loon Dance on many occasions in Canada and Upper Michigan. It is a very special treat. The lighting has to be perfect to have the green band on his neck be green.

A great photo captured with good clarity and as you say - timing is everything - great timing too, capturing the near perfect shape of the outstretched wings, the detail on the back and feathers and the wonderful colours too. A fantastic shot that I'm not surprised you'll cherish, great work :)

Wow! I cannot say that I have ever seen a loon before. This is a first. What a magnificent creature it is. I imagine that you were thrilled to capture such a fabulous shot and he spread his wings. It looks too big to fly. I love how you got every color and detail in this shot. Great viewing. Thanks.

They're pretty aren't they! They are able to fly too. They are a diving bird and sit low in the water. Thou I have heard Loons before this was the first encounter I've ever had with one! I'm SO glad you enjoyed the image! Thanks for the wonderful review!

Being a Brit I have never heard of a bird called a Loon! Here the word "loon" implies someone who is mad or behaves in very strange ways!! Your image benefits from being well composed, sharp and well exposed. Well done and good luck!

I see them quite often in northern Michigan but they only rarely stop by my lake during migration. A very fine shot with nice detail in the plumage. Good luck in the contest.
