This is such a sweet photo, and it is easy to see that the little boy is having fun in the water. You have of course also pictured the flow of water well, and the boy is standing out from it in such a nice way.
Your photo is also nice and sharp with good details, and the exposure is spot on.
The photo is nicely cropped and the boy has got a fine placement off to the right. A lovely and well taken photo, and I wish you luck with the contest.

There is nothing more delightful than the expression of pure glee on a child's face. You have captured that here on this precious little boy. Love it!
Your lighting seems a bit underexposed on the child...but works for this scene with the possibility of the light reflecting on the water being blown out. No problems with that with your accomplished white balance on your frothing and breaking water.
Your framing is good. I personally would have placed more space in front of the boy...in the direction he is moving....or cropped just a bit more off behind him also to move him clearly out of the center of your frame.
Your water colors are beautiful...just like a painting with the chosen colors. A nice choice for the contest with a shared interest in this sweet boy. Best of luck.

Thank you very much for your critical and thoughtful comments. I left the light low so that it would be adequate for a cloudy day and indeed to avoid blow outs. There was a disgusting fleet of tangled plastic and rutting garbage in front of the boy. I did not want to involve mixed media to remove it, so I cropped it. I tried the crop you suggest but the crop seemed getting imbalanced. That is why I decided on the square.

Ah, what fun! I can almost feel the waves swirling around my feet and the sand between my toes. And believe me, it has been a long time since I played in the surf. I like that it was an overcast day. No distracting shadows. Just the undisguised pleasure of a beautiful child. Great work!
