I love this. Pine cones are something I enjoy every winter in our yard. I think they are beautiful in symmetry and in overall shape and in their holiday aroma. I am enjoying viewing these in August! :D

Your choice to use B&W is ingenious! I don't remember seeing that done here on FAR. Excellent!

Your lights and shadow and various shades of gray are well done. Your detail, light and shadows and dof are expertly handled. Your choice in framing is with the branch diagonal through your frame is artistic...especially as it meets another branch with the bark of the pine showing clearly. A complete pleasure to view. Great job! Thank you!

I like the simplicity of your nature shot of the pine cones. Your choice of black and white works well and has a good tonal range. Your wide aperture blurring distractions from the background compliments your photography. Your focus is sharp with good details and clarity. This is a fine entry into the Black and White Contest and good luck. This is very nice work and thanks for sharing!

Cool shot and excellent choice for black and white as it has some amazing textures. Nicely composed, well focused and exposed. Good choice of f stop throwing the background into blur.

Excellent choice for B&W. With the superb fine detail of the shot every nuance of the cones and foreground branches are clear and well defined. Plus it is a fabulous composition with the juxtaposed cones on the juxtaposed two branches. Very striking piece. Best of luck in the contest.

The crop is excellent and the lighting is great. The details of the scene are sharp and well defined. I am not sure if color would have turned out as well. Well done and gives me an idea of a shot that be better suited for b/w.

Firstly, it's lovely to know that this as actually shot in black and white film, giving it real authenticity, which is a rarity these days with all the modern technology - but gives us a nice trip back down memory lane (before my time anyway!!). The clarity is excellent, and the detail sharp and precise - the composition and POV from which it is taken is carefully and neatly done, and tight cropping shows these neat little pine cones balancing on the branch beautifully. A lovely piece, well done :)

Thank you very much. I suspect that you would have really appreciated black and white film and the wet darkroom. The printing process was to me almost magical. Now, not dead but ailing badly. Now, instant gratification and other technical stuff (mostly good) rule. Thanks again for your very nice review.

I think this turned out very very well! Great centering of your "subjects" (thanks to cropping?), and the overall clarity is superb. Helps to show off the details in the bark on the tree and the layers of the pine cones. Good shot!

I like this for many reasons.

First of all the tonality is far reaching. Did you know that there are 256 tones of gray? You have a broad range from white to black.

The focal points are sharp and well contrasted.

As I was scrolling down from the large image to small thumbnail a natural crop happened. Try cropping down closer to the pine cones. What that did was take out the black trunk of diffused tree in the background as it begs for attention....that part gets eliminated somewhat and more attention goes on the pine cones and the patterns shown there. I think it would be a stronger shot...check it out.

The way the branches frame the focal points is pure serendipity and your eye caught it....as did your lens.

Good one, thumbs up.

    More.

But be careful because I have a tendency to crop too much (according to some reviewers)....so take this "MORE" suggestion with a grain of salt. An if you win this contest you are taking me out for a coffee.....deal?
