This is an interesting way of working you pursue. Actually you create two independent pieces of art which are nevertheless connected with each other. It seems you have to spend many hours on both pieces. I assume you use oil colors for the canvas painting. I mouthing I realize the knife and the brush strokes. I like what you archived. The style reminds me of expressionist paintings. I like your colors which are harmonious. Your painting has a good perspective. The textures of stone, sand and green foliage as also of the clouds are indeed impressive.

Thank you for your five star vote and comments. I appreciate the demonstration that you have painterly knowledge and skills which I suspected when I critiqued your purple flowers. My work has now been compared to van Gogh, impressionism, and now expressionism. Thank you. It is a direction I want to go. I think more in the terms of abstract realism. I want the painting to look realistic enough to be recognized and abstract enough to present a power of presentation. Difficult with some successes and some failures. Thank you for your review.

The term Abstract Realism is new to me, but it is an very intersting concept you provide. I think somehow Abstract Realism could refer to my own art as well. :o)

Hi. The term abstract realism does not exist in the art world as any established school of art. It is my own term to describe my style of painting. Just to let you know.
reply by cleo85 on 18-Oct-2017
I like that therm very much. Maybe it will be an established school of art sometimes in the feature. :o)

Well I just checked the internet. Abstract realism is a school of art that includes artists like Jackson Pollok. My work is not a part of that school. So, I don't know what to call it. It doesn't fit properly in any school of art. Actually, I like that. I will leave it up to someone else to try to classify my work.

I just checked it out myself after reading your reply. This schoul of art indeed has nothing to do with your art or mine. I guess we won't worry about. Many of the masterpieces hanging in museums aren't classified either.
Maybe we are just Contemporary artists of the 21 century.

I can almost "see" where your point of view was. I have been there a couple of times. It is such a wonderful place. how small it makes me feel.

Your painting is very nice. The reds are so true to the canyon. Well done.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. I am glad I could bring back pleasant memories. And just for the record, I stool in the middle of the trail about 500 feet down from the entry sign at the trail top.

Wow. I had no idea how many things go into a work of art such as this. I am a photographer which is easy compared to your work here. The colors and details give such a grand expression of this magnificent area. Kudos Carl on a wonderful work of true art ~ Steve

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. And thank you for recognizing what went into doing this painting. A few years ago I did grand canyon 1 and 2. While they are pretty decent paintings I knew I did not yet have the skill to paint what I wanted. So I left the canyon alone and painted landscapes, portraits, etc. until I had gained enough skill to do this level of work. Grand canyon VI will have to wait a bit more before it is completed. That skill level thing. I now have to wait, practice and develop that skill to present the illusion of depth that makes one gasp or at least nervous looking down into a dark canyon. Maybe sometime next year, I hope. Glad you enjoyed this one.

Your painting is so beautiful and enjoy the winding Trail. Enjoy all of your rock formations that are so geologically correct and wonderful. My feelings are maybe to let your medium work for you more. This holds true for me too. Thank You for sharing.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. As to medium working for me, it is a struggle. But, I know what you mean.

This is indeed an interesting representation, the media style of which reminds me somewhat of the works of Vincent van Gogh whose concentration of form focused more upon the interaction of color than on color perspective. Very well done and thank you for sharing.

Lovely creative composition. The shapes, patterns, colors are great. It is a image to put on a wall and wander in. Beautiful image. Good luck in the contest

Very nice contest entry. You have a unique style in your artwork. The composition works with the diagonal slope in the front against the horizontal tree line. Love the blend of colors. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. And, thank you for mentioning the unique style. I really do work on how colors define shapes and forms. I strive to make my landscapes bold, colorful, and demanding of attention. I rarely use the old Dutch masters technique of scrubbling and stay away from the black brown backgrounds use to enhance forms. Nor am I interested in faded or muted forms to describe vastness. I most enjoy when the painting starts to have a conversation with me about what it wants to become.
