Yes they do,Eileen!
The gleaming metallic coloration must offer them some sort of evolutionary advantage!
Your photo of this one is an interesting, strikingly colorful image indeed!

Oh how sweet and delicate this little guy is. He is much more than a pest when photographed. A work of art. Love the iridescent colors against the 2 tones of green. Great composition and excellent sharp focus. Great work.

these long legged flies are not really pests as they eat all the bad bugs out there. And stay away from human foods.
thanks so much

Great to know about friendly bugs. Thanks. :)

I believe that color is the essence in creating dynamic artwork that the viewer finds appealing and a pleasure to view. These high qualities are present throughout your work, and shows your talent as a true professional artist. thanks for sharing., thanks

A beautifully sharp and neat macro shot of this little fly perched on the leaf, captured with brilliant clarity and DOF and showing superb detail in it's design and colours - they are quite beautiful in a weird way, with the almost unnatural colours of the two tone shiny armour, hey could almost be some kind of robot or toy manufactured when looked at in this detail! Great contrast with the leaf itself and great timing, a lovely macro shot. Between you and I I've got a few (not close to the sharpness of this!) macros of flies recently and was pleasantly surprised with how visually intriguing they are ! :)

Wowzers! What a great shot of this Green Bottle Fly (I think. Will maybe not. A bit too skinny. Hmmmm. And that ends our entomology lesson for today boys and girls). You really captured the iridescence of not only the body, but also the prism reflection of the wings. I really like the placement and composition as there is nothing competing to distract the eye. Very will done Eileen ~ Steve

Holy Shit! LOL Look at those iridescent colors that resemble a shield of metal armor. I hope you have an other one your entering in the Macro contest. This is a well achieved macro with loads of detail, a sharp focus and I personally really find the floating leaf of which he/she has made into a platform, very aesthetically pleasing. There are no competing elements - it's simple and yet dynamic. It's exemplary and I wish I had a 6! Kathy

Phenomenal Work!
I have never seen such a beautiful fly with so much color. Your clarity is Amazing. This is a perfect example of what smudging the background do for a photo. Technical Excellence has clearly been shown. I really enjoyed this one. Thank you for Sharing and Keep up the Great Work :)
