Out of my garden

If you utilized MIXED MEDIA, you must have done something to this photo. this contest's criteria clearly states UNEDITED items out of the garden that are UNWASHED. I believe you have washed them and I believe you have edited your photo. Please submit a photo of an unedited and unwashed item out of your garden. If you do not change your photo by also getting rid of the mixed media, it will be DQd. Thanks. So sorry. Great photo...perhaps for another contest or just a post. UPDATE I am in a heated discussion because if a member monitors contests they should either be able to DQ someone's entry or get a 24 hour period before voting booth opens to get it DQd correctly.....but right now all I get from Tom is that I should have had the CEC monitor it....well, then why is there an option when creating a contest to monitor your own......anyway....if these radishes were washed, you should have either changed the photo or removed it totally. Right now you won second place and several other members are upset because they feel they followed the rules and you did not. ANOTHER UPDATE: After your informative note back to me, I can see where you are coming from. I stand corrected and owe you an apology. I changed my rating for you. Without the explanation, I like so many others, did think these were washed therefore thinking it did not meet the criteria of the contest. I will get the word out to those members that are sad or upset.....I will let them know your entry deserved the 2nd place ribbon etc etc etc

Hi: If you say it is a great photo, I cannot understand the 4. I thought you were supposed to mark an image by the quality, Not anything else. I have had this image since 19-5-2011 and cannot remember what I did with it. This is the original just cropped.

Yes entries are supposed to be rated on quality but they are also supposed to be rated on following contest rules. Sorry but these radishes look like they were washed and placed nicely on the plate for photo taking....they do not look like they were just plucked out of a garden. Other members with submissions have contacted me because they feel it is unfair that an entry not following the criteria of the contest was still a part of the voting booth. I am sorry if I was incorrect in my assumption but many other members came up with that same assumption.

Congratulations on your 2nd place win.

My wife used to grow Lettuces, and radishes hydroponically.

Growing vegetables hydroponically ? using various nutrient solutions circulating through water and sometimes a lightweight growing medium instead of soil ? has become immensely popular. Hydroponic growing lets gardeners harvest fresh crops year round no matter where they live ?even in cold climates or in apartments without any land nearby.

Some gardeners prefer hydroponics over conventional outdoor growing because they can control for many variables in the environment and because hydroponically grown crops in many casescan be raised without many weeds or common insect pests.

A hydroponic radish crop may be a challenge, but many gardeners report good results.

Experienced hydroponic growers say that unless the chemical balance is just right in the nutrient solution ? notably, if nitrogen levels are too high ? there may be a lot of top growth instead of anice round edible root bulb. Others recommend starting radishes with a focus on ?grow?solutions until top leaf development is underway, and then changing to a ?root? solution that will nurture development of the edible roots.

Looks like I can reach right in and pull a few out for my salad. Beautifully clear and sharp with natural colors make it look that way. A perfect simple composition at just the right perspective. Very well done and good luck.

A mouth watering picture of these freshly pulled & washed Radishes just waiting on that plate to be picked up & minced after cutting off the root & dipping the Radish into salt. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
