Hello Cleo
Nice moth. Good initial impact and good details. You have placed the subject well in the frame and used all available space. That is good.
The yellow flowers are just a little hot. Bordering on too bright. You might want to tone them down just a little and see how you like it.
Anyway this is a good story image and I do like it and I thank you for sharing with me.

Thank you for your encouraging comments and your tip Roger. This was a contest entry. The contest rules did not allowed any enhancements except cropping, but now I will turn the yellow down. That might even emphasize the markings of the butterfly. [It is a butterfly, even as it looks like a moth. It only flies and feed when the sun is out.] :o)

Cute title with an equally lovable humble butterfly...
Not much outrageous wing design & outlandish colors.
Outstanding presentation as if saying "Dont go near here...this is my territory!"
Sharply focused features and soft, smooth, delicate wing textures.
Contrasting colors of earth tone subject set against vibrant lantana florets and verdant foliage.
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much! The colors are indeed outlandish. That is the first almost black butterfly I ever saw.

You bet!;-))

I cannot comment on your naming of this insect, in fact I am not even sure that it is a butterfly! I can, though, see that your photo is well composed, sharp and has good exposure. Well done and good luck!

Thank you much for your kind review. It is a butterfly. You can also search for it online. I think the easiest to find it, is if you search for "Erynnis boratius" its Latin name.

Thanks for this!

You're welcome, and thank you!

I just love butterflies and moths! This photo nicely captured the details of the moth's wings and body. One almost expects dust to fall from the wings. Nicely executed.

Thank you very much for your kind review. This is not a moth, but a true butterfly. You can find information about this species if you search online for Erynnis boratius [Latin name] and Horace's Duskywing [Common name].
