Lovely pastel painting of the Cardinals in the tree in your brother's garden. I like how you've shown them with their feathers fluffed out in the cold and their lovely colours contrasting with the pale winter sky and trees. Great attention to detail and I love your use of colour. Very nice composition. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne

Hi Anon (or not so Anon!) :)

You are now recognizable from your style which I believe is a sign of greatness! This is a lovely wintry scene which is very apt for the approaching season as well as this contest which I think you might just win! All the best. R

Thank you so very much. I've been searching for my style and I think you are right...it is trees with no leaves. I just love doing them.

A nice job with this pair of Cardinals. The colors of the birds stand in stark contrast with the leafless trees. The bill on the male is just a touch oversize but not enough to deduct any points. A very suitable entry for the contest. Best of luck ~ Steve

Thank you so much. I struggled with that and after about the third overpaint I decided to leave it alone. Thanks for your honesty

This is a lovely picture! I like that you included both the male and the female. It's great how you show their feathers all fluffed up to protect themselves from the cold. Best of luck in the contest!

A beautiful pastel drawing done with exquisite detail and fantastic intricacy, showing the various tones of both red and yellow in subtle different shades that have clearly been painstakingly blended together. The features are accurate and in proportion, and also slightly accentuated to give a more illustrative feel to them, reminiscent of an illustrated page in a children's book. The white/silvery birch trees they both perch in at different heights are crisp in colour with the black streaks sketched in superbly throughout. The grey wintery background not only sets the atmosphere well but also accentuates these two slightly dodgy looking birds even further - a fantastic piece, very well done :)

You have produced a very visually realistic artwork showing two pretty birds proudly perched on snow laden tree branches. At first glance I thought that I was looking at an actual photograph.

Wonderful use of your color pallet Linda to achieve your beautiful Cardinals. Detail in their feathers are marvelous along with their proportions. Enjoy the birches they are perched on and Cardinals positions. Very well done and Thank You for sharing.

Well done with that implied diagonal composition of the he and she cardinals.

You caught the mood nicely and this is well rendered in creamy colours of cold winter blues and whites.

The beak on the male cardinal almost looks like a bill of a duck but perhaps some bills are just a bit bigger and thicker than others.

Lovely portrayal.

I like the simplicity of composition. The viewer knows immediately that the is a winter scenery. It is a fine idea to show a female and male cardinal. Even as most couples live in monogamy we do not see them often in the same picture. The brushstrokes are bold. The details are not defined, but still show texture. The colors are realistic. Its a nice entry for the contest, but This is a "blind" contest. You need to cover your signature for the time the contest is running, if you do not want to be disqualified.

I really like this art work. Beautiful background diffused soft cool colors. The trees are done nicely and give off the starkness of the season. Your cardinals are great..feathers nicely done and the gleam in their eyes are perfect. Cool!
