Impressive capture!

A painterly feel backdrop...
Striking deep red orange color with two big round eyes & an gaping mouth should intimidate would be predators!

Nice perspective & narrow DOF.

Thanks for sharing...

Firebug has great initial impact. I love red bug against the opposing green color. The way you muted out the edges is nice and brings attention to the foreground.

A very nice shot. The bug is impeccably sharp and the colors are outstanding. It seems I have encountered this bug and its red-orange nymphs on milkweed in Michigan.

    Mike,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on the Fire Bug that I've not seen in Ireland but in both France & Portugal, they must prefer the drier & hotter summers.
Thank too for the most welcome SIX Star rating

What an interesting bug. The colorations on his back give the appearance that he is dressed for Halloween. I am assuming that he doesn't sting since he is photographed in a hand.

No I did not get stung as I took it's photo sitting in my left hand, camera in my right!

Wow! like a long lost ancestor of the ladybird in the colour co-ordination, what a fantastic shot of this odd, flat little bug, captured with superb clarity and lighting, showing the close up features of the unusual patterns on it's back and the oval shape of its armoured body brilliantly, with it's little head and antennae peeping over the top as it clambers up this cabbage like Hollyhock. A nice light vignette effect lights up the edges and the pink and green contrast with it's claret and black markings - a lovely capture Susan, great work! :)

    Ed,
Thanks a million for your complementary review & kind words. They are certainly eye catching Bugs.
I'm not sure if they'd enjoy the climates of either North Yorkshire or Co. Dublin.
