A cyber six, Deb. I too am fascinated by Love in a Mist. If you look way back in my portfolio your will see a photo of the seed head with the flower gone. Fascinating and so individual.

Your notes are so interesting to me. And I think there are others here as well...such as Stringbean who would love to have a purple Nigella in her beautiful gardens. Thank you for taking the time with your notes. They are not only scientific but heartfelt. Always, always a pleasure to read.

Your photo is perfection. Using a light...any light...at night on a flower can be brash and uncomplimentary to light and shadows and reflections. But yours have evolved into sheer beauty...every time. Congratulations ...and thank you! Gorgeous! A framer!

OH NO....my entire thank you GONE....s.o.b... but ISP has been a bear since the wind storm the other night. I'll have to try again once it's up and running again. grrrrrr

lol...Oh of course, it saved THAT! sheesh. Anyway, I know I had thanked you for such a really nice review Becky....and said also that I may have been able to photograph this guy a bit better. I am always so excited when a purple one shows up that I get giddy photographing it. AND said I'll have to check out your NIGELLA seed head (I save them...have a vase full (of dusty ones lol) in the BR.

    Deborah (off again now....OMG)

Extremely beautiful photograph of this most interesting and eye-catching flower. The detail showing the center with the seeds is
breathtaking, and the stamens and green foliage
surrounding the bloom resemble little spikes so cleverly placed protecting
the flower. Although the purple flower is very beautiful, I think I prefer the white variety. Just my personal preference because
I have seen that one too.
Deborah you amaze me with
your ability to photograph at night and produce these incredibly different and remarkable flowers. Wonderful Beauty.

Well isn't this such a nice surprise this morning Marsha! I may agree w/ you actually...the white ones w/ the cobalt blue center may be my favorite. I still have to show you the pink variety too btw. Anyway, that is just an outstanding review and thank you sooo much for the extra sparkle. You're a sweetheart!

You know I love these flowers Deborah, and you always picture them so well. This one is truly beautiful with the deep purple color, and when you have a dark background like this, the flower is standing out in an excellent way.

Your photo is also quite sharp showing such clear and well defined details in the petals, and I also think the exposure is spot on.

The photo is nicely cropped and the flower has got a very good placement within the frame. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken flower photo, and with a very good DOF.

So easy to grow AV. Maybe you'll try them in your gardens sometime??? Thank you so much for checking out my new piece and giving it such an excellent review.

You are most welcome Deborah. I would not mind trying to grow these flowers. Do I have to buy plants, or just seeds ?
reply by the author on 31-Oct-2017
I usually get little 'starts' AV. I may try starting some inside... from seeds myself early next spring. I haven't had a lot of luck w/ seeds I've collected so think I'll try purchasing them...if I can find a place that sells NIGELLA seeds....but 'starts' have been a sure thing for me in the past.

Thank you for the information Deborah. You might find seeds on the net if you don't find them any other place. That is what I will try.

A beautiful blossom and a fantastic shot. It is a little surprising to me to see such vibrant petals after the flower has gone to seed. A fine color palette with superb details.

It may have been closer to three or four days MM. Those little clear seeds you can see at the center here must turn brown before the flower drops them. Regardless, this flower does everything REALLY quickly. Thank you so much for the excellent review and I do definitely appreciate the extra sparkle. You were most generous here.
