Those clouds from the cannon fire draw my attention immediately. What an unusual ceremony and unusual mix of traditions. I appreciate you informative comments. This photo is a great combination of beautiful architecture in an interesting landscape and a sunset sky with wonderful colors.

An outstanding photo! Congratulations on the recognized status. The lighting is soft and lovely, and the pink cannonball fire just adds to the ironic peacefulness. Your physical position as the photographer really makes this a memorable image.

Would have been a nice enough shot of this church on its own Mary, but to get the cannon at that precise moment of fire gives it an even better shot,do like your wording in this as well...brian

Another grand shot!
I love that you lined up the ridge of the roof with the horizon. Very cool.
The plume of smoke from the canon is perfect!
All around great shot that has a very nice mood and ambiance.
The sky color is really captured well here.

I wasn't going to comment on this one. But, repeated views led to early memories of my childhood like visiting Fort Charter and Fort Kaskaskia in southern Illinois. And that is what a photo is supposed to do, evoke memories. That and the fact that this is a well composed and event recomposed photo. Reasons for my five vote and what kind of hill were you standing on when you took this picture. Reasons for my five star vote.

Hello Stringbean

This is beautiful. Love the sunset and the rich colors shown here. The church is just great and the deep green lawn the perfect setting.

You have timed your shot just right to catch the flame out of the barrel as well as the smoke for the explosion of the white gun powder.

A really great story image. Thank you for sharing this one with me.

Roger
