this is really a wonder. i have grown up with many such pictures, as my dad painted for churches. well you sure made a very emotive and soulful look. the expression can reflect the sorrow you state but the whole picture is one of beauty. an inspiration for any artist linda.

I thought Madonna was a skinny blonde? Ok. Not that funny.

You did this image a great justice. Well done. Truly in the fashion of the masters. Coloring is fantastic. Shape and shading exquisite. Best of luck and thanks for sharing.

Hi Linda

This is a very intriguing piece because you have indeed caught the style of the masters very well. You just need to leave this in a damp attic somewhere now to acquire the faded look! :) Sorry I just used up my last six. Should have saved it :( R

A great portrait of the Madonna, in which you have captured her features well and with good thick texture and good use of colours, with bold purple for her head scarf/robe and the red lining with white spots that give the piece a little more visual stimulus. The gold background is superb and contrasts well with the other colours. Her facial features are exceptional, with great proportions and lovely big brown eyes, and the sad expression you mentioned is captured perfectly. A great piece, well done :)

Wow! Your creation of the Madonnia is stunning and you draw us into this art work with those sad eyes. So enjoyed reading your artists notes and the processing taken to accomplished this outstanding work. So beautiful is your background of oil gold leaf accentuating your work. Your colors, brush strokes and shading and blending of color adding to the beauty of this piece. I like the angle of her head and your gorgeous facial features. You colors are fantastic along with the beautiful shades of colors you have created. A excellent entry into the Human Form Art Contest and good luck. A creative and talented piece and thanks for sharing.

The very first thing I thought was "such powerful sadness in that face"... then I read your info. You have given us the emotion in a grand way. Strength in the sadness of those eyes and the longish curves of her face. I don't think I have ever seen an angel with sadness over their face. You have me curious now... gonna do a web search! LOL Thanks for sharing! Good luck in the contest!

My pleasure. And thank you for the fine review. I always try to make my art mine rather than just copy some one else.

Don't know about the Icon Painters style approach. It feels more like a byzantine art with a 1950's modern art movement presentation. You may have started out with the idea of doing an Icon painting, but the painting wanted to be more modern, exhibiting lesser smooth shading, more dramatic fabric elements and flatter folds in the subdued purple. I also think the eyes are more byzantine in expression than in icon art. I assume the texture in the background is on purpose. Kind of nice as it looks like she is walking down the street instead of sitting in a studio. A rather nice painting. I like it. Reasons for my five star vote.

Thank you so much. It is not an icon because there is another whole process and materials that have to be used for those. I was just going for the style. Again, I appreciate your time and review.

You have done an amazing job on this piece.
You have definitely captured the feeling of sorrow. She really looks like some of the Icons in our church. Your colors are so vibrant and bright. The details are very nice. I love the gold highlight behind her also just like the Icons. This is amazing. My mom has been working on a diamond painting of the Madonna and I have two favorites now. Thank you so much for explaining your process in such detail and for sharing such an amazing piece.

Well done! You did such an amazing job with the details. That sorrowful look you were going for comes off quite clear. There is so much emotion in this painting, especially in her eyes. You have blended all of these colors together beautifully. Overall a wonderful composition. Thanks for sharing this with us :)
