Gaia, just like the earth itself, is beautiful. Her eyes really draw me in and so does her lips. I like what she's wearing on her ears. Her hair is very pretty as well.

Well presented piece, the fact that she is a goddess is secondary. Good color and I like the looseness of the strokes especially in her hair. Even loose they still present the message. She has a very tantalizing and almost come hither look in her presence. Well done.

Excellent work ,loved the write-up very interesting, It's all in the eyes! Great composition and I like the way you have painted the hair gives great detail and movement. The warm earthy colors are the icing on the cake.it Has a lot of impact.Thanks for sharing.

I adore Greek mythology. You're a Portrait here in the painting is not only lovely but is fantastic. You're right up into scription deserve 10 stars plus plus plus. I totally can relate to a paining when it comes from the artist persona and also takes time to write in the entry in what drove them to make the paining or the capture of the photograph. The eyes have a comforting quality. A Mother Earth type in a beautiful young woman. Wonderful creation. Blessings Always, Cindy Sue ~

I adore Greek mythology. You're a Portrait here in the painting is not only lovely but is fantastic. You're right up into scription deserve 10 stars plus plus plus. I totally can relate to a paining when it comes from the artist persona and also takes time to write in the entry in what drove them to make the paining or the capture of the photograph. Your Gaia is stunning Carl and just the perfect type of entrant for this contest. So enjoyed reading your notes...and your methods...especially how you do not start a painting w/ a preconceived idea but rather have what you call a 'conversation' w/ the paint as your piece progresses.
As for your piece itself-1st baseline thought of having Gaia appear to be looking back at the viewer- check! Got that perfectly. As for 2nd- loose color no shape background- check again. I really like all the shades of gold, yellows browns etc rather than the more typical greens you might find for Earth Goddess.
Your Gaia herself-just a stunning face and beautiful eyes...and those eyes just angled perfectly. I swear she is watching me as I type this...lol Skin tones are spot on. Love the tousled hair and the earrings. Your paintings are amazing Carl. This piece is top notch from notes on down. Love it. Gold star all the way and will be looking for this one when the contest comes up for a vote. Best of luck to you!

It is true, all Greek goddesses are meant to be beautiful, and the version of Gaia you have painted for sure is. I like very much the brown hues of the background with the golden glow, and also the fine textures brought out in the hear.
I also the eyes are done well with the lovely high light you have added, and the skin looks smooth and silky. All a result of excellent brush work. As always you have also used high lights really well.
The format and framing is very good and Gaia is well placed on the canvas. Indeed a lovely and well done painting Carl.
