A rare find!
An interesting initial impact.
Chiaroscuro technique works well highlighted by an overhead illumination...
A white board could have bounced lighting to illuminate some nice features on its core & vessel...
Still a great shot.
Excellent choice of subject.
Fine features & textures.
Square format works well.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.

Sarah, these colours are gorgeous. We have so many of these in Thailand but I've yet to see one with purple.
Tilt the screen toward you and you will see white splotches which are not noticeable straight on...you might want to clean that up, so easy to do....use your patch tool or clone them out as the background is not confusing at all. It will give you a solid clean image.
What do you think about that leaf? I know you left it in because it is there and that is the natural photo....you did not edits. Do you think the photo would look better without that leaf.
Those are just some suggestions ...but it is a good image. sharp and so eye catching

the splotches I think are where I too off my name. Cannot see it on my computer. I totally agree with
you about the leaf, but admit to not seeing it before

A beautiful close up capture of this complex and intricate flower, captured with great clarity and DOF, showing the intricate details and patterns on this unusual but beautiful blossoming head. Particularly impressive with no edits, and the plant shows imperfections like the missing end of one of the Sepals (?) on the right, probably munched by a hungry insect! The purple and green blend together wonderfully and the spotted inner parts of the flower are impressively captured. The slightly out of focus leaf gives us perspective on the flower and the shot is well centralised and accentuated well by the dark background. Great work, well done :)
