I so wish I had a six for this beautiful memorial photo of a no color flower for those innocent lives taken in the school shooting. It is so very sad and horrible! I hold my breath because they are happening too often! I pray for healing and comfort to those families who lost their babies that day. This was a beautiful express how you feel. Thanks for sharing.

When I first saw your post and read your artist's notes, I was unable to write a Review. I am a very sensitive person and me being so ill at the moment makes it [my sensitivity level] even more than normal.
So here I am a few days later trying to come up with the right words to say what my aching heart is feeling. Your photo, when not in B&W could have depicted what once was a beautiful young soul full of life...vibrant and happy dreaming of things to come [homecoming, the prom, getting first drivers license, having a sleepover this coming weekend, going to the movies with her friends/his buddies]....but now stripped of all its colorful beauty, it has become a soul no longer filled with life but an emptiness for all of us that we feel deep inside...the painful emotions of losing yet another child in yet another shooting is grasping at all emotions. As I type tears are welling in my eyes...I still cannot do this review without breaking down. This photo of yours shows us the extremely sad story of what transpired...the colorless flower and the way you have it displayed with its pedals curving inward as if we are all curling up deep within ourselves stripped of everything
because of all the lives lost, all the people affected by the loss...pain, the memory of losing yet another innocent child by such a vicious killing....your photo is perfect for this massacre. Your artist's notes are so heartfelt written and entire piece is a remarkable tribute and even though it conveys an extreme sadness, it is the most perfect to display Just that. Thank you for your tribute, your magnificent photo that takes your tribute to new heights and all the emotions it carries with it to all those affected by this tragedy, so they can hopefully feel somewhat of a comfort knowing they are not alone.
Excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Deborah,
What can I say such horror visited upon the young at school a place where they should be safe in an environment where learning & life skills should bring joy & not sadness...We had 30 years of killing for so called Political gain in Ireland during the so called "Troubles"... thankfully now there is "Peace"... Guns & Automatic weaponry should not be in the hands of anyone outside the Military...Even then the young & innocent are the ones that suffer the most... I have "Family members" in America so I feel for you all, may God Bless you & end this carnage soon! Your photo of the Cosmos daisy is magnificent & deserves a SIX it's beauty glowing in the light with the curved petal casting shadows on the others expresses the sadness we all feel without the need for words. Artistic composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera & editing techniques & sharp focus.
Susan

awwww. Thank you so much Susan for your heartfelt thoughts w/ this piece. I know you understand the fighting and killing. I would like to think we don't here in the US but recently we have turned on ourselves. Anyway, thank you again for your kind words. I do really appreciate them Susan.

Deb,
A moving way to express your feelings about the tragedy in Florida. I also feel drained and feel like we are living in a colorless time. Thank you for sharing this image and for so eloquently expressing what many of us in this country are feeling. We are strong together.

This is a lovely monochromatic photo of an artistically framed beauty of a flower. Have your looked at the B&W flower contest now that you have accomplished this beauty? I'm sure you have many that will convert beautifully to B&W.

As for the school shooting...as a retired H.S. teacher I am heartbroken and do wonder where their campus guard was. This one seemed to be a total show of a non secure building. I have always hated the violent computer games..always.. I think someone like this young man could not separate the reality of what he was doing from his psychotic problems. ...which should have been addressed quite a while ago.

That's my two cents and thank you, Deb..

You are just a doll dear Becky for the tutelage re: B&W Sincere thanks for that. As for contests....sigh. I was so disappointed w/ my first foray but I will have a look at B&W ones. I rather like (VERY surprisingly) the stark look of this piece....and you're right- I have tons of images to try this with. So thank you for having a look at this and for your heartfelt thoughts as well.

This is a great tribute to those 17 children that were lost in that horrific shooting. It's terrifying that you can drop your kids off at school and possibly never see them again. Your photograph is simply stunning, from the angle and point of view to the framing and composition. The way the petal is the front is folded over, gives this a lonely closed off feeling. You can actually feel an emotion coming out of you with the way you shot this. Super nice work here.

Karen that is one of the best things anyone has said about this piece and I do so appreciate it.....your artistic eye picked up the emotion I was hoping I could convey w/ my camera so thank you so much for having a look at this one and for being able to see it exactly the way I'd hoped it would be seen.

A beautiful symbolic gesture of this colourless flower in the face of such a terrible occurrence and crime to
I am not sure what flower this is? It has the look of innocence blown away.
A thoughtfully expressed image.

Yes. A very sad and horryfying event. To thinktthat school kids are resporting to killar instincts is unimaginable for seniors like me and what is all the more disturbing is that in the last 1 year 12 shooting incidents have taken place in schools! You have expressed you sorrow in a creative way. May this contribute bringing peace in schools.!

A very sad time for your country deb and my heart goes out to those effected by this tradgedy directly or indirectly , the world seems to be
Going crazy you can only ask why.
I think black and white in photography strips things down to the
Basics and has more emotional impact which is what you have done here, and this is a very emotional
And sad time.
Nice focus and lighting show detail in the flower which stands out against the black back ground. Thank you for sharing this post and your comments about this awful tragedy,
Sometimes it helps to talk and photography is our
Medium . Jo

I have never been a fan of B&W photography Jo.....just seemed like the thing to do w/ the feeling I wanted to express w/ this piece and I have to admit I'm feeling a bit differently about B&W now...it conveyed perfectly the emotion I wanted to show w/ this piece....so I really appreciate your thoughts on the B&W bit. Thank you for you that....and for the really lovely review you've given. Do appreciate THAT as well.

Deb I understand how you feel
    About colour and flowers, but
Just try black and white In the future
    Only applies to some compositions
    But can really work. Jo.
