I was missing them - this ballerina is elegant in a very appealing position - fragile and strong at the same time
excellent color range and application - your spotlight is also spot on and the light reflection on her tutu are really well placed
a very attractive painting - excellent DOF - the background lets her stand out perfectly and the distribution in your frame is professional
excellent detail work - well done

Wow! This is a great entry into the Human Form Art Contest. Nicely done in your color palette and such beautiful attention shown to the Ballerinas with the black and white background and your use of the spotlight. Good balance of shape and form of this gorgeous ballerina. A good contender in the contest and good luck. Outstanding work and thanks for sharing.

Hi James thanks so much for sharing your ballerina in the spotlight. An interesting media used to paint on. You have given her much poise in your delicate and detailed brush strokes . The intricate work blending the lights and shadows in her costume is grand. The details on her tutu and the brush strokes used to flair her skirt work nicely.. Her well defined facial features give her a soft and subtle appearance and her hair is nicely framed around her face, showing her well outlines jaw line and neck. The little crown on her head is a nice contrast to the dark hair tones. They greyish hues in her top are nicely shaded to add a more three dimensional appearance .. The positioning of her legs is good. the pointed toe in her ballet shoes on the front leg is a nice touch to accentuate the grace of a ballerina and the positioning of he back foot gives her a nice balance .. excellent use of lighting in the black background on the left side.. The ring of lighting she stands upon, draws attention to her slender body and contrasts well with the dark background.
Well rendered James and a pleasure to review. best of luck in the contest. cheers mel

Beautiful oil painting, James and excellent entry for the contest. I love the simple design of this pose of the ballerina in the spotlight. Excellent light and shade and I like the limited palette you used. Lovely blending. Sorry I've no 6 left but best of luck in the contest. Suzanne

Wow, I have never done a painting this big. My biggest is 30 by 40. I am disabled and can't stand very long. Hard to reach the top. I have turned upside down to paint the top but I always have to remember to paint the top upside down so that when I put it back in the right position it comes out right. This reminds me of the work of Edgar Degas. He specialized in painting ballerinas. Check it out with google. You have now done 3 women in a row with lifelike faces that are expressing emotions. You did this well for a ballet action shot. I have no criticisms. The only suggestion would be her shadow. Where is the light coming from. Based on the wall to her left, it is coming from in the front left. Based on that angle, just check the shadow. That shadow would be right if the light was direct left or direct right. Here her legs block the light. So, the shadow should be from the legs to the left wall straight ahead. Ignore me if you like. Thank you for sharing and best of luck with this image

This is such a lovely ballerina.
What a great job with oil on a wood panel.
I love how she is in the spotlight, with good shadowing and the black in the background really makes it all pop.
Another great presentation, thanks for sharing.
