This is a great looking tree. The twisted bark and branches are interesting to view and the color of the terrain is so rich and dry looking that it seems amazing that the tree survives in this environment.

So beautiful is the gnarled old tree with exposed roots and the red sand with it's dried grasses. A good perspective and angle of your shot.....I only wonder what your photography would have looked like with the top of the tree visible. A gorgeous scene with a good balance of shapes and tones. This is very nice work and thanks for sharing.

Well done! Your focus, framing, and lighting are all very good. That is a very interesting looking tree and I think you captured it perfectly. The way it is going into two separate directions makes it look like it was split in two by lightning lol. Thanks for sharing this with us :)

Very well photographed it's a clear well focused image , the gnarled tree immediately draws the viewers eye, to see the detail, I like the placement off centered and the color tones are beautiful together . Very well presented!

A beautiful "Rosette Sky". You don't see this except in the desert.
A very creative presentation. The visualized angle suggest a rising foreground with no horizon beyond the tree - masterful.
The physical appearance of the tree determines the setting, mood and flavor of this excellent take. Its placement in this frame projects such an epic story.
The earth tone colors harmonize to dress this stage.
The technical camera settings were spot on.
A compelling desert scene ... B-)) Bob

A great composition of this tree, like how you can see the sky under the roots, very nice color and details and depth, nice textures with the grass sticking out of the ground, a pleasure to look at, thank you for sharing, dale

Ah this is a must say moment. hm . . . I am only an amateur also, so saying that , I'm understanding why you took the picture . because it is all that . A gnarled tree, and yes your name of it is great! . So either more tree less ground , or right on top of it ,( not saying get on top but ) close up and personal, where you really see the reason why it is called a gnarled tree. Find it's beauty, find its being there. It is like I find myself here but where am I . Just silly notes , the fore ground is too much the tree the title gives it light , show it off . Sorry i am babbling but if you come upon something so interesting it moves you, find a spot that makes you want to show that you are meant to be there. Smiles I do like it , but she deserves ? You tell me . hope to hear from you Bev :)

Cool,Nikman!
That tree is 'gnarled' indeed, isn't it?
And your good looking photograph of it makes for an interesting, nicely 'out of the ordinary' picture too!

Nik,
A beautiful picture of this gnarled & twisted Bristlecone Pine growing in the desert of Monument Valley it's roots exposed after the surface soil it's growing in is blown away by the action of the wind on the dry sandy soil. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Nik,
Some of those Bristlecone Pines can be thousands of years old!
