....The 'Hill Bed' in Winter

....and Finnegan too

If you hadn't pointed out where the pooch was I probably would be asking - What's a Finnegan?

Heavy overcast still produces great even and flattering light, but ya just have to take a little more care.

I like the look of the snow on the branches - makes me feel all wintry.

Color range is narrow, but that is what the available light offers.

Technically a very well framed look enhanced with excellent camera management.

We wait for our long winter slumber continues still.

We wait, cherishing a filmy knowledge hidden deep within each of us that soon our white cocoon will disappear and warm rain will melt the frost.

We wait for our time in the sun to return.

We wait to greet once again out four legged guardians

We wait for the one who calls us friend.

We wait for her soft foot steps in the night.

We wait to see who she will favor with camera and light this night.

We wait.

The combination of this post, your notes and my disgust with the weather, compelled me to drop a few lines of verse.

Hope you don't mind ... OMP

I don't mind .....not even a bit dear OMP. In fact, I like what you wrote well enough that this review will be a 'keeper' (and there aren't a whole lot of those) May have really pushed my luck w/ the overcast skies this day (OR not paid careful enough attention) as it's lacking a bit of the zing I often appreciate so much when shooting w/ overcast skies. Ah well.....I love having Finnegan in it (who btw, I did not even notice until I uploaded this to my laptop...lol) You are a doll for having a look and just love the thoughts you added to this one. Thank you OMP. Now we wait.....

You are right Deborah, it is difficult to imagine how this part of your garden looks like in summer, but I am sure it looks lovely. There again, it also looks lovely in winter and I think seeing Finnegan sneaking around in the background, adds interest.

Your photo is pin sharp showing such clear and well defined details in both the pine trees and the foreground, and the exposure is perfect.

The format and framing is very good and it is a very good balance in the composition. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF.

Do you know AV that it wasn't even until I put this one on my computer that I realized my Finnegan was in it! Besides being such a good girl she just sort of blended into the almost drab colors I got this day. Do really appreciate you having a look at my latest piece and thank you, as always, for doing up such a thorough review.

Hi Deborah thanks for sharing another section of your amazing garden and of course Finnegan. Can't forget the most important feature in the scene. I love those conifers ( softwoods) on the hill. They look so stunning with their snow covered foliage.. Perfectly shaped Christmas trees is what comes to my mind.. Appreciate your story explaining how your tallest perennials pop up in the warmer months and add some extra splendor to this section of the garden. I can visualize well the beauty of their colourful splash of zing, in amongst the softwoods. The photo is nicely balanced with the grasses in the foreground, partially hidden by the depth of snow.. Gives a good indication of its density and provides good depth of field in your scene. The few scattered deciduous trees on both the right and left of the picture bopping up to say hello behind the tall conifers, add a nice variety of texture to the photo and a good balance for eye appeal. Love your Finnigan carefully stepping around the plants . Brings the photo to life and adds a special touch of joy. She must have a wonderful life living in such a beautiful retreat. Thanks again Deborah for sharing your home garden.. It is always a joy to the eyes and a real treat to review. cheers mel

If they weren't so tall....AND so far from a electricity outlet I would have put lights on them years ago Melyuki....just to enjoy all for myself...lol ...and you're a doll for mentioning my Finnegan. I think you're right too. If I was ever a dog I would want to live RIGHT HERE!! Thank you so much for another thorough and so enjoyable review. I hope you know how much I appreciate them.
