Hi Susan thanks for sharing this delightful capture of the stunning
Cinnibar Moth ~Tyria jacobeaae. and your accompanying notes which are most informative .. You have created a beautiful scene.. with your clever photographic skills.. of converging two photos into one amazing image.. The green variances of foliage looks so effective and adds both texture and density to the picture. the broader larger leaves contrast well with the smaller more compact clusters and together create a wonderful backdrop for these most unusual and attractive moths. the rich deep red tones are eye catching against the bold green hue in the leaves. the black portion of the moth contrasts nicely with their red highlights and makes them really stand out ... The exposure and lighting are excellent. and I like that patch of blue pastel tone in the background on the right ... it adds great sense of depth of field to the picture.. as does the black background which is seen through the foliage.. The moths are nicely arranged in the picture and give a good feeling of balance as they spread the colour into view. thanks for sharing this delightful photo which has a cool and refreshing emotion emanating from within. a true pleasure to review. cheers mel

That's the prettiest moth I've ever seen. Great focus and lighting. The lighting and highlights give it a soft feel around the edges. I like the coloring of the moths against the green leaves. Thank you for sharing!

Wow! What a contrasting color to the verdant green foliage overtone.
Rule of Odds & Triangles...
Nice perspective & shallow DOF.
Dappled illumination from filtered lighting.

Thanks for sharing...

A very nice nature shot posted here! Your fine composition allows us an enjoyable look at the scene. Love the way those moths have worked themselves into and around that thick foliage. Exposure and sharpness are good. Well done!

    Nik,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this Cinnibar Moth on the Great Saltee Island off Co. Wexford last year. I had to hold the camera under the plants facing up to capture it....not knowing what i'd got until after the event. This is a collage of my best shots.

I have never even heard of them let alone seen one. If I ever have the good fortune to run across one, I am sure to recognize it thanks to your very fine photo.

    Mike,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this Cinnibar Moth. I had to look it up myself. I thought it was a Burnet moth. Which are similar in colouring but don't have the long dark stripe on it's upper wings. They have been introduced to America to deal with the noxious weed Tanzy Ragwort.

These are some very unique looking butterflies that you have captured here in this photo. Your lighting and composition show them off well. Love looking at the details in the butterflies as I have never seen anything like this. Thanks for sharing.

    Karen,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this Cinnibar Moth, one of the moths that is brightly coloured like the Burnet both of these moths fly during the day as well as after dark.

What a beautifully colored moth Susan. I can see how they get their name...sounds like cinnamon, and reminds me of the red coloring. They look amazing against the green foliage and are interestingly marked. Beautiful capture of these moths with lovely detail and clarity. A pleasure to view.

    Marsha,
Excuse my delay in replying I fell sleep in the middle of reviewing last night tablet in my hands! After two very busy days.
These moths are beautiful, they were flying among the low undergrowth in large numbers....when I asked others on the Day Trip to the Island had they taken any photos of the moths & got a blank!! I know it was not easy holding the camera under the plants to get pictures but I thought they were too beautiful not to.

I have never seen a moth of this type, this is a very interesting nature capture, they are really beautiful with the red and black color pattern and just the bit of white on the wings, I like that you got 3 in the frame and that this shows them in their natural habitat. Very interesting notes too! Well presented!

    Pat,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this collage of three photos I took of the Cinnibar Moth on the Great Saltee Island off the Wexford coast about 80miles south of Dublin. The white spots you saw on the wings are black but with sunlight glowing through from behind. They were difficult to take as I had to frame & take the photos blind holding the lens towards the moth at an angle that was impossible to see what I was going to get until after the fact.

pity the butterflies are so blur and out of focus, they are hidden in the huge background and hardly see

also, the bright , almost over expose areas in the frame distracts

thanks for sharing

    Galia,
    Thank you.
The Moths were hidden under the leaves & branches of the low growing plants .
