Stunning! The initial impact for me is the glow of the fire behind this goddess. You have blended your paints perfectly to create this illusion of a fire behind the hearth.

Your details are exemplary in her hair and face. And your blending of colors are complimentary throughout..with no severe dividing lines within your shapes or light and shadows. Excellent! Your proportions are perfect as well. The choice of where to crop her form is evocative and again.. well done in shadows and light.

Your notes can't help but remind this child of the 70's of the band discovered in Chicago, IL... my home state.. Earth, Wind and Fire. Their music was described as "innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing" I think that description is in perfect sync with your Goddess of the Hearth. Best of luck!

Hum, you are a child of the 70's. Given the historical chronology, I then am a warrior of the 60's. My how time changes everything, except our need to create. As to the cropping, thank you for seeing it as evocative. It was an element I wanted to make her desirable without exposure. There are times suggestion is more powerful than exposition. Thank you for your five star vote and your element pointed critique.

You are most welcome... and when I say a 'child of the 70's' I mean that I was born in the 50's.. LOL! And yes..your suggestion is much more powerful than exposition...which sometimes limits those who are comfortable viewers of your work.. Everyone and anyone...artist or no...would enjoy viewing this! Thanks again!

So was mine, and an Uncle. I can only hope we don't loose what they won.

Love this portrait, she has beautiful eyes reminds me a little of one of my nieces. Really captured the hair and the warm colors all go great together. The Composition is very strong with good shading in the face and body also capturing the lighting on her face so well.

Thank you for your five star review and your comments. As to composition, thank you. I just knew I had to do two light sources, major one from the right onto the face and the minor light on the left to highlight the back of the shoulder and hair. Thanks for seeing that in compositional terms.

You surely learned from the old masters. You got both of your goals. I have tried it; her eyes follow me indeed where ever I go. Even from the computer screen. Your Hestia is indeed an "earth-bound" goddess, modern and full of life without loosing her mythical connection. So far I know Hestia was a kind of a rebel at Mount Olympus. She looks like it. Her face impression looks provoking to me. Her face has not the classical idealisation but a lot of human likeness. It is irregular. The sun-light gives the unruly hair a red shine. Its said that witches have hear like that. The teeth [Is there the slight over-bite, we call bunny-teeth?] seem ready to bite, in fight or in love.

Thank you very much for the six star vote. And thanks for really seeing this portrait. Yes, there is an overbite. Yes the features are irregular. And yes the portrait was painted to make her look as human as I had the skill to do so. I did not want to paint an idealized human to be seen as a goddess. In Greek mythology, the gods and goddesses walked, interacted, warred and cavorted with humans. They were not see in person as gods unless they wanted the humans to see them as so.

Thank you for your five star vote, your comments and your honesty. For me, before I even start a critique, I must like what I see. Every thing else then seems to just fall in place.

Nicely done portrait of a young woman. The trick with the eyes works well, Her hair is well rendered and stands out against the bright background. The angled head greats a nice look. The shading you have done shapes her face very well. Well executed, good job

Hestia is beautifully presented with impressive detail, beautiful red hair in a variety of reddish tones, nice facial expression arched eyebrows fantastic blue eyes that do indeed follow the viewer if moved, the eyes come alive with the catch lights ( that's impressive ) her nose and mouth are in proportion and well defined, I like that you show her teeth too, skin tones are natural and welll applied. Hestia had fewer temples then any of the other Gods but was worshipped the most because she was the Goddess of the fireside and had part in all the worship in the Greek home. Background is absolutely perfect in the fiery tones.

I had never heard of this Goddess before...very interesting and informative description. The background coloring is very warm and inviting. I like her eyes, they are very expressive and the highlights in her hair add to the warmth also. Great portrait....good luck in the contest!

Nice one, Carl. I love your bold orange and yellow background. The subject is well drawn and proportionate. The highlights and tones in her hair are realistic. Nice skin tones that are natural. The red hair is even more accentuated by the bold background. Great contest entry. Good luck.
