The dog is very well done but the hand look to generic almost like a fake one. Think you would of been better off to leave the human part of this out. These few nit picks is the only thing refraining me from giving you the 5th pro. star.

I've gotten similar reviews about the hand. I haven't worked further on it, but I do plan to. Maybe I can give it more realism because I totally see what you're saying. Thanks for the review!

What a beautiful dog and so excellently done. The shading and detail are very nice and I like the addition of the owner's (?) hand as it adds just that litltle bit more to the picture. Very nice.

Thanks, and yes, it is the owner's hand (my dad's). Your comment is very encouraging.

Very good drawing. The compostion drew me in and reminded me of the closeness of man and dog. The dogs face is very strong, I'd love to see a drawing of him closer up. Your techique of blending is done well.

Very nice observation. That's my dad's hand, and they were very close companions. Thank-you for your kindness.

Thanks. Well, I am passionate when I can see it in my mind, and I strive to get the same thing on paper. It is very rewarding once I can see it all coming together. Thank-you again for your nice comment.

A nice compostion and subject. It is well drawn but could use a bit more depth. THe dog looks great but the hand somehow doesn't look natural in length or shape. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks. I had a little trouble with the hand because the photo lacked lighting/shadows. It is from a dim, muted, sepia/toned photo (a rather calm and beautiful photo), and it's a little blurry. That made the fur tough because I could barely see the movement of the fur. I had to hold the photo at arm's length. Anyway, I suppose I'll have to compensate with creating the shadows for a more life-like effect. Thank-you again for your comment. I strongly encourage your honesty.

This is a beautiful picture. You did a fantastic job with the blending. The Elkhound/Shephard looks very real on the board. It was a nice touch to had the owner's hand to the drawing. The detail you have draw is very lifelike and accented very well.

Nice job

Your pencil work is still just exceptional. His eye and nose are beautiful, and, the prominant part of this work because your artistry grows stronger in its almost photographic quality as you take the time to bring in depth and dimension of detailing with darker definition and light accents. You have an erase line that's evident, moving around his muzzle down to his revealed teeth. If it were blended more it wouldn't pop out. The line of marking coming down between his eyes seems a little off centered favoring the shown eye. This sets off the face form and shaping, as well as placement of the other eye.

This is just beautiful. It's just missing a bit more defining richness to really give it that real elegance you bring to your pieces.

Thanks. I appreciate honesty more than anything. That's what builds character in an artist. I had started with Ebony at first (on the head), but it was so hard to blend and erase like I was used to. (First timer with Ebony) I agree completely with everything you said. I could never really put my finger on what was "off" but your eye has proven to be very useful. I will correct this sometime and repost the drawing. Thank-you again.

It's beautiful as is...not many can refine the medium of pencil with that precision. Just thought I'd run a few things by that caught my eye. You have quite a talent. It is a bummer when you run up against a medium that isn't as cooperative once applied. :)
