Coleus Blossom

A close up

People don't usual grow the Coleus plant for its blossoms, but when you have close look at them, which you have done here, they are really pretty. Still it is the many different colors of the leaves we get impressed by.

I like the close and personal approach, and also how well the blossoms are standing out from the softened background. The focus is spot on and sharp, and it is clear and well defined details to be seen. The colors are crisp and clear, and the exposure is perfect.

The tight cropping has worked well, and the flower has got a fine diagonal placement within the frame. Also this a lovely and well taken photo Bob, and with a very good DOF.

I love the blooming coleus with great colors and dainty details. They will bloom whole winter if you bring them inside and then back in the spring in the garden.
Bob thank you for sharing.

Bob,
A beautiful picture of the pale purple Coleus flower spike surrounded by their red wine & green edged leaves.
Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

Although i quite like this one bob do find its a bit dark on my screen whether you can lighten it a tad don,t no and maybe it does not need it,it maybe also due to the surrounding greenery being dark in this...brian

Yes I've seen them bloom before and they are very pretty little flowers. You captured this blossom beautifully here. It reminds me of a small version of English lavender. Enjoyable to view.

Neither did I Bob! I've never seen one in bloom before and just presumed that they didn't - and here you are showing me how wrong our assumptions can often be!
It looks quite similar to the nettle and dead nettle flowers, I wonder if they're the same family?
Your photo is lovely (in my surprise I nearly forgot the review bit of the message!), with fine focus and a good dof - I love the bokeh behind!
Perfect exposure, giving lovely natural colours to the whole.
The best of luck in the competition.

Hi Charlotte.. My first encounter with the Coleus was High School Biology I. That plant didn't bloom, because it never had a chance. We used the leaves to extract the chlorophyll. I'm glad you liked the post. Thank you, for the excellent review and rating!... Bob

These things used to spring up all over the back yard,Bob,but they seem to have gone extinct over the course of the last few decades! ( Too many 'poisonous to plant life' automotive chemicals leaking into the soil from various 'project cars' that ended up being stored back there I think! )
This is a fine looking picture,my friend!
I'm enjoying it vrry much!

Maybe not Sean. I've seen at least 3 other plant species that used to thrive in Northeast Vt. disappear. Thank you I'm glad you liked the post ... Bob
