It is truly a pity that this old tree is gone, because it was so beautiful standing there on its own. I especially like the simplicity and also the softness because of the fog. I also like the monochrome look.
In spite of the softness this is a sharp photo with clear and well defined details, and the exposure is perfect.
The format is perfect, and I like the centered position of the tree within the frame. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo Jack, and with an excellent DOF. A worthy contest winner.

Jack this was a once in a lifetime event. One that most every shooter I know would be willing to mortgage their first born for a chance like this.
Too top it all off there isn't one negative thing I can say about this excellent piece.
You captured for all time a moment that will never ever be repeated- Man that's photography!
Frame this and hang it where all who enter your house can see it... Bob

I am really old you captured this beautiful old tree as well! They are always a little more special when they stand on their own. Having this in black-and-white with the fog all around is a special touch. Great photo

Love the name and story behind the description here. I'm glad you had the opportunity to capture the tree. I like the softness of this photo. Black and white was the right choice. Great capture.

You have captured the beautiful shape of this tree, enhanced by the foggy day adding a mysterious feeling to the picture. it is a shame the tree is gone. Good luck in the contest.

The fog really adds an eerie atmosphere to a tree that already had some character and the back lighting to create a silhouette works really well. Good framing with the tree filling the frame yet we can see just enough of the ground to give a size perspective. Well done.
