Not a bad technic.

Apart from that, it looks as if a good student is too much afraid to express himself, he is too busy with being ok, and it stops him.

Take care.

Thanks Goya. I am curious with what you mean by "he is too busy with being O.k.,and it stops him" What would you suggest I do differently?
reply by Goya on 05-May-2004
I'm mean that you stick too much to the idea you seem to have of what is appropriate in the drawing and what is not. Then, your impression of your work doesn't pass, in a way it looks as if there is too much attention on technic and less on expressing. I hope I make myself clear :) take care. Goya.

Bambootiger, being the mercenary that I am, I was going to pass this by since, at this time, I'll only "earn" one point and two cents. The superior quality of the work, however, got the better of my conscience. It is a masterful drawing, my friend, and deserves top rating. The amount of detail and the shading are perfect. The young woman's eyes are extraordinarily beautiful. I admire your creativity and your exceptional skill a great deal. Congratulations!
Peace, Papa.

Papa, Thank you very much. I'll try to work up some more points in the future. Although, just between you and me, I won't have anything better than this for awhile, since it is the latest thing I've done. Everthing else I am gong to post is older work.

I think your a very talented person and did a good job on this drawing, maybe its me but the eyes seem to be off a little bit, the shading looks good and the attention to detail also looks appealing, good job.

You've done a wonderful job with this drawing but the wrist isn't right. It looks too wide and too long above the cuff of the blouse. Wonderful eyes. They speak to you.

Gloriajo, thank you. The wrist, as well as the proportions in every other part of this picture are mathmatical fixed by a study of the photograph. I did go back to the eyes several times because that is the most important part of the portrait.

This is quite lovely. I would have liked to see more dramatic shadowing but this picture has an overall soft and elegant feel to it. Nice work!

Thank you Tillantria. The shadows are hard to work in this particular type of paper, but it wasn't that pronounced even in the photo.

This is a very nice portrait. I especially like how you have highlights in her eyes - often, artists will forget that important step, making eyes look dead. It sounds like you used an interesting technique to do this in. I like all the detail in her hair, too. Proportions look good, overall, this is well done.

WickedLizzie, Thank you very much. The eyes are the sigle most important element in any portrait and I try to emphasize them in some way.

bambootiger, I am not sure how you did this connecting dots, I have seen some work done like that but this does not look at all like what I have seen. anywho, this is some very nice work, hope to see more of your work.

Thank you RUBY REDWINE. Did you ever do one of those pictures when you were a kid of "connect the dots and see what this is"? I printed out a photo and put dots on, for example, the corners of the eyes. I measure the exact distance of each from one side and a line on the bottom of the photo. If I am going to draw on the same scale I just measure these same two distances on the paper and put each dot where it belongs. It takes about six hours for this stage. Each dot becomes part of a lightly drawn line and lines are the boundry of shadows, and each shadow has a different quality and texture.

You really bring this beautiful lady to life with your rendition of graphite and carbon illustrating. Her features are lifelike and balanced, your detailing has a soft appearance with a mastery of capturing just the right elements of light and dark and shading. Nice useage of texturing, drawing in personality with the expression you reflect within your lines of artistic impression. Nice job.

Wolfdancer13, Thank you for your comments. This was a cotton paper so some of the rendering is a result of the cotton fibers.

Very cool. The daeatil and realism is absolutely fabulous. The composition is almost perfect. Was this taken after a real picture or from memory?

This was from a picture off the net. I printed it out, drew the dots (probley about 50) on the picture, measured and put each in the same place on the paper and gradually connected them and worked it up in layers. I think I almost captured her personality. You would have to see the original photo.
