Portraits are very hard. I can see the light in this ladies eyes, making her very believable. It looks like a straight on shot, you should be able to draw an imaginary line down through the nose and to the center of the mouth. I think that should help you see where it is off.

Lacks symmetry in the face...but perhaps you meant it that way? Nice attention to the detail though. Keep drawing! Thanks.

You have some beautiful pencil work that embraces this portrait of your love. She looks like she has some quite striking eyes. There's something off about the shift of feature's lines up on her face, however. The line that runs from the tip of her nose, that needs some refining and further shaping, should be pulled over and centered to my right, along with the mouth, her jawline shaped to balance out with the upper curves of her face.
The mouth is beautifully detailed in shading and form. I'm sure she must have been quite impressed with such a artistic rendition of her. A larger version would really accentuate those great features you've put alot of time into.

Thank you... Like most I learn more and more every-day...Art itself is a source of inspiration...Drawing/sketching can provide a way of exploring concepts, bouncing thoughts around and expressing thoughts and feelings that are difficult to put in words...

You're off to a good start, but I want to point out a couple of things with this drawing - the nose and mouth do not line up properly, and the eyes are off - they don't look the same. That could be because of the small size of this image. You have managed good proportions, and I think with practice you can improve your skills.

cwncwn, I looked into your eyes and I see a sadness.
This appears to me to be an extremely well executed drawing. I admire tremendously the great gift you have to be able to accomplish this with simple pencil. There is wonderful detail as well in this work. I wonder why, however, you clipped off the top of the hair. And, I think our view of your excellent piece would be much more effective without the frame.
Congratulations.
Peace, Papa.

Thank you... I put it all in this one, However this is one of my early works... I had my wife to sit and look at me for a very long time...(this a short time after a miscarriage)...She was sick, tired and sad yet never a complaint...I tried to catch what she felt at that moment. She is my greatest fan and critic.

I like the picture, but there's something about it that does'nt work with me. I think it's the nose. The nose and the way the eyes are augmented... Thanks!

Yes, I agree... It is one of my early sketches and looks like the nose is just not quit right...The eyes, I was trying to get her feeling at that very moment...She was tired and never said a word...Just sit there and let me work...Thanks...

Admire your choice of a portrait and the medium used. Faces have always been difficult for me, thus, subjects in my paintings and sketchings often do not include detailed facial features.
Very realistic. Especially the neck/collar, shadowing with chin and intensity of eyes.

Thank you... On faces after I get the lay-out I use 3-pencils... HB, 2H and 2B. I then just use the same type of paper to do the shading.
